Hey guys. I need help on a very important issue that I’m sure many of us go through. First off, I snore alot and real loud. My girlfriend complains that it’s so bad that she can’t get sleep at night. Well I have heard there are surgeries to fix something in the nasal passage that allows you to sleep without snoring but we’re not all that rich. Anyways my next resort is T-mag, the one and only. Any ideas or techniques on how to stop snoring, reduce it, or avoid it. I’m sure all of us go through it so all the help is needed. Thanks alot T-men.
First things first. How much do you weigh? How long have you been snoring? Always? A Few years? Recently? How do you feel you sleep? well? So So? Do you get sleepy during the day frequently? answer me those and i have some info for you.
Check out this web site. I have had the proceedure done and it significantly reduced my snoring. http://www.somnoplasty.net
Oh, by the way getting my ass in shape and no more booze helped too!
Bigdaddy, well first off I just started snoring recently, maybe less than a year i take it. I weigh 165-170. This is a big weight increase for me since I’m on the Pound O’ Week Diet and have gained about 25 lbs. since December. Like stated, I am a heavy sleeper and it takes alot to wake me up. Periodically I nap/sleep during the daytime. I was told it was because I eat before I go to sleep to pack in extra calories. I don’t think it is that. So please help me out. Thanks.
You can always try those nasal strips. I hear those work, but I bet it can probably get expensive.
my dad, a notroius snorer had the procedure done not too long ago. The first 2 weeks after he was super loud, but now he is not as loud as he was before the procedure. In general i think it takes anyware from 2-4 treatments, and doesn’t work on everyone. My dad’s getting another treatment soon.
Heavy, there was a product out a few years ago that was a kind of arm cuff. It had a microphone or something in it that picked up snoring sounds, and when that happened it sent a mild electrical impulse into your arm, enough to make you uncomfortable and turn over to relieve it. The theory was that most snoring is due to body positioning (i.e. on your back with your mouth wide open), so by changing that you’d quit. Also, a secondary benefit was that over time your body would subconsciously learn to associate snoring with the mild pain, and therefore stop. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of this device, and I don’t even know if they still make it or not. But maybe someone else out there knows…?
there are certain mouthguards you can wear to stop your snoring. I’ve seen some that were marketing by Dr. Joyce Brothers. I don’t know how effective it is, but you can give it a try. And if it doesn’t work, you can always give it to your dog to chew on.
just pushing it back up. Thanks for your replies guys.
First of all you need to check if you actually do have a deviated septum or over sized adenoid glands. Second have your girlfriend watch you while you sleep and tell you if you snore in bursts, gasp for air or stop breathing then gasp for air.If she sees you breathing ok just making noise or just having trouble getting air in it could be and obstructional problem in your nose or throat. But if its gasping or stop breathing then gasping for air there could be other problems like Phisical or neurological sleep apnea. I would take it seriously and check it out becouse not only you want to stop making noise but maybe even sleeping better hence better growth buddy. I have sleep apnea but mine is induced becouse of my execive body weight. But im almost out of it becouse of all my weight loss. But check it out becouse it is not just coused by weight like most people think there are skinny people who develop apnea also. Good luck bud and hope the info works for you.
I understand your situation. Matter of fact, I had an outpatient procedure called somnoplasty which uses Sonar Waves to shrink the uvula in the back of the throat. Cost me about $700 ~ lot of money, but its a lot cheaper than divorce court, right? Anyway, if that’s not possible for you, here’s what the doctors told me to try:
- Sleep on your side ~ if you tend to sleep on your back, put a row of tennis balls that’ll you will roll on top of - this will be uncomfortable for you.
- Lose weight ~ I’m already at 12% bodyfat
- Avoid alcohol
None of that stuff worked for me. If you elect to go the surgery route, stay away from the laser procedure - very painful. Good luck
Mark, You got a deal! I paid 2k for somnoplasty. It does work, but it took two visits for me. Fortunately the 2k is for as many visits as you need.
