Kill it!
Thanks for the well wishes.
We are under water here in the front range of Colorado. This is normally a sleepy little creek that is just a short hiking distance from our house.
Stay dry snap.
Wow, that’s a lot of water. As Joe said, stay dry and give em hell at the meet! Looking forward to the results.
Oh wow, I’ve seen pix of the Colorado flooding . . . amazed the state is still there. Is that anywhere near you?

Yes, it is near us. But not the worst of it.
MEET RESULTS.
I did a small USAPL meet on Saturday in Nebraska at a YMCA. This meet reinforced for me that you just never know what to expect on the platform and that gym lifts are just an entirely different animal.
Arrived Friday late afternoon and was able to sweet talk getting my equipment check outta the way as well as weigh in on the official scale to see where I was in the weight class. Weighed in light so I had a lovely steak, potato, and salad dinner 12 hours before my weigh-in. That was the first time I’ve ever done that.
Spent the night tossing and turning worrying about my squat, which has been in the shit can the last few weeks.Couldn’t squat any weight. Couldn’t hit depth. I was just so worried that I’d bomb out.
Morning of the meet. Weighed in at 111.9. Squat warmup went okay. I didn’t feel particularly strong or confident. My coach did not want to lower my opener. The timing of my warmup didn’t work out too well because the meet was delayed about 15 minutes. When I was two lifters out, my coach started wrapping me. But the spotters/loaders were slow. So he unwrapped me. He then rewrapped me. Then there was another delay. So I started taking off my wraps. Then my name was called with one wrap on, one wrap off. Ahh! My coach QUICKLY rewrapped the knee with a long tail. So one knee was tightly wrapped and had been for a few minutes and the other was newly and loosely wrapped. Here’s what happened with 192.5 lb.:
Ugly and too hard for an opener but plenty deep and three whites!
Second attempt at 203.5 lb:
Plenty deep again but a max effort.
Decided to go for 214.5 for a third attempt because that would have been a PR. Unfortunately, I have no video of that lovely squat. I went to the floor and buckled my knees forward. Anyone who has ever done this in gear know that this is extremely painful. I hurt my back and the tendons/ligaments on the back of my knees. Everything sort of hyperextended. And the cuts from my wraps!
On to bench. Which was the whole reason I did this meet.
I was so excited to get a PR. Warmups went great. As did my first attempt at 110 lb:
It went smooth and felt easy.
Second attempt at 115.5 lb:
No lift. Yes, I lifted my ass a little more than USAPL judges prefer. That would have been a PR.
Third attempt at 115.5 lb again. I was so worried about keeping my ass down that I didn’t stay tight in the upper body and got out of the groove of the shirt on the descent:
I cannot tell you how disappointed I was. It was hard to not cry. Getting a bench PR was the whole reason I did this meet. But it was a [private] goal of mine to do this meet and have fun and not pout as I’m prone to do. So I’m pleased to say I accomplished this goal.
DL warmups were rough. I decided to pull only a few reps in the warmup room since I was hurting from my squat fail. I pulled 205 in the warmup room and it was a max effort. My coach suggested lowering my opener. But I didn’t want to.
I must admit that I was a bit nervous for my opener of 220 lb:
Just flew up.
Second attempt at 231 lb also flew up although my form sucked:
Third attempt at 242 lb. flew off the ground and then I just stopped and dropped. Don’t know why. Really can’t figure it out. I’m a bit embarrassed really. It shows in my reaction on the platform.
The highlight of the meet was being awarded the best female lifter award. It was a thrill for me.
So I worried myself sick about squat but did okay. And the one sure thing I thought I had in the bag I didn’t get (a bench PR). Lots to work on. Rounded back in DL. Ass down on bench. I am greatly looking forward to getting that PR bench next time around.

The loot. I should mention that in addition to the trophy, the best lifter award also came with a container of creatine and some metabolic supplement. Goofy ass smile. I was exhausted.
Good job and congrats on the best female award. Too bad about that last deadlift, but the first meet is out of your system and now you can start training for the next one.
Congrats Snap!
Great work grinding out the squats. your bench looked as strong as I’ve ever seen it and the butt issue is just a result of the low bench you were using during training. First two deads looked strong as well- Good job.
Congrats, maybe not what you were expecting, but a great job.
Now I see what you were talking about with the almost face plant bench, that was scary to even watch. Thanks God for good spotters.
Cute pic miss, where are you going to put the trophies?
Good going…let your missed lifts drive your next training cycle.
Damn good job Snap, looking forward to great lifts in the next few meets.
Those are incredible trophies there, and love the pig tails.
Great lifting and congratulations on the best lifter award! Managing energy on meet day is always a challenge and the best laid plans of mice and men(women too) often go astray. No worries because you will smash PRs in the future and dominate many more meets. Excellent job!
I commented yesterday and some how, my post went astray.
I’m trying to figure out from you description what happened on the third squat. Did you actually hit the platform with your knees like falling forward?
Your last pull looked really fast until it suddenly wasn’t. I know that disappointment.
Congratulations on best lifer. We both did well on that ![]()
Congrats on the hardware! That was a great write up and you did a great job, even if it didn’t go as perfectly as planned.
Nice work at the meet Snap, every time I watch you squat I realize that I am a 1/2 squatter (and a cheater), you really do get low. As for the bench it’s hard to see you lift your ass on the 2nd, I’ve seen a lot more obvious get passed (though maybe not in the USAPL). Congrats on the big ass trophies as well and the best lifter award must be nice. Excellent haul.
Nice work all the way around. I didn’t see the lift in the second bench attempt, so it counts!
Even though you didn’t get all the lifts, it was still enough for overall best female. Congrats!
So was 111.9 the weight class you were aiming for?
