Oh wow, I’ve seen pix of the Colorado flooding . . . amazed the state is still there. Is that anywhere near you?

Shit, up in Alberta they had a huge flood, it is considering close to being Canada’s greatest disaster in history.

Congrats on the brass, I suppose your litany of old injuries was surmountable.

Congratulations!

You’ve been working you ass off and you kicked butt.

What is it with floods? I passed through Colorado ahead of yours, but I was in Houston when it flooded last Friday. I parked in a parkade instead of the free parking by the river at the hotel. It was because I didn’t feel up to walking in the heat and I was expensing it. The water was up to the car windows in the free parking…so lucky I was lazy.

I used to live in Boulder. All the flooding really shocked me. I lived a while in Louisville too.

I really enjoyed watching the vids, congrats! I feel ya on the embarrassment I felt like crying myself to when I missed my 2nd and 3rd bench attempts my last meet with a weight that I always rock in the gym. It is a totally different animal meet day. Fighting to warm up correctly when to wrap up, long waits for the benching, it really tests your resolve. That last DL attempt, WTF it flew off the floor! Very impressive lifting once again.

I used to go to Boulder on business a few times a year, I worked for a company called BI Incorporated. I hope all is getting better over there.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Too bad about that last deadlift, but the first meet is out of your system and now you can start training for the next one.
This wasn’t my first meet. I have been competing for five years.

Those are incredible trophies there, and love the pig tails.
The refs forced me into the pigtails. A new USAPL rule requires hair to be up during bench.

I’m trying to figure out from you description what happened on the third squat. Did you actually hit the platform with your knees like falling forward?
Spotter caught me before my knees hit, but that was the direction I was going. The tendons/ligaments/muscles(?) behind my one knee are still so sore I cannot push up from a squat position. I hope the problem starts fixing itself soon.

So was 111.9 the weight class you were aiming for?
No. I was trying to get below 105.5. I gave up three weeks out because I was afraid it would sap too much strength. Maybe another time.

I haven’t done anything all week. Still nursing my knee and my good (?) shoulder. I turned 48 last week. Two years until I am an M2. May sound crazy, but I am looking forward to that.

Did it look like this? Don’t bother watching the entire thing. Just wait until my second squat attempt. I was uninjured but felt really lucky I didn’t wreck my knees.

So funny you posted that because it went through my mind that my fail was very similar to an old one of yours. I did not drop the bar, though, and the spotters caught me before my knees hit. But I think it probably looked equally as graceful:)

I know what you mean, I’m looking forward to moving up age classes too.

One day we’ll have to have a TN +35 meet where a lot of us compete.

Snap, it is wonderful to “see” you again via your meet videos. Look at you getting’ after it! This makes me so happy.

There hasn’t been much athletic achievement happening for me this year. Still fighting a nagging hip/hamstring issue that has kept me from any real lower-body lifting (or running) for a long time. I am still training, and my upper body is still looking good. But the days of hitting performance goals may be history for me.

But, YAY FOR YOU!!!

…Just yesterday I was thinking of you Kimba, I was going to ask snap if she has heard from you. Sorry on your injury :frowning:

//Hijack and Im sure I wont be alone.

Great work Snap! Nice to see you competing again.

Always happy to have you stop in, Kimba. Your fitness journey has always been of great interest to me. And I still miss your log. The days of hitting performance goals may be history for me as well on the platform. But I am too stubborn (stupid?) to give up the sport.

You could still keep a log you know?

Just saying…

I doubt it, you’ve got more PRs in you.

So after taking three weeks off after my meet, I started back up again yesterday. My knee is feeling better so I felt safe to squat again.

I am going to run Bill Starr’s 5x5 program. I got interested in it when Ouroboro started running it. I set my maxes ridiculously low to allow me to run it for awhile without plateauing. I have nothing on the calendar in terms of upcoming meets, so I am going to play it conservative for awhile. I did a trial run of the program yesterday and really liked it. Monday will be the official start.

I need to incorporate some serious cardio/conditioning into my training. But since I don’t enjoy it, I have a hard time making myself do it. I’m like that. I need someone to stand over me with a whip and make me push the prowler or run sprints or some such. I am seriously tempted to hire a trainer for two 30-minute sessions a week. But I am too frugal for that.

Is there a sport like soccer or boxing you like? I find cardio works best when you are busy trying to chase a ball or trying to avoid getting punched in the head.

Hi there! I think I heard my name so I’m swooping in.

I’ll be interested to see how you like the Bill Starr program. If you like a lot of variety, it may bore you. However, if like me, you like what you like and can do it for months on end, it’s a good program. I think it was smart to start with low maxes. As I did the program, I ended up lowering some of mine. I just started it again a few weeks ago and since I’m unsure where I am with the weight cut, I dropped it further.

Keeping it simple and direct is sometimes the best way to go, hope the Starr program is exactly what you want and need.
