For the past while i’ve been logging 10-11hours of sleep a night. I’m 33 and train with weights 3x/week and ride bike (mostly anaerobically) 3-4x/week. I work in a bar 3x a week and finish up around 3am but am usaully in bed by 11 for my day job the other 4 days. I regularly take 2000mg of c, 400 of e for breakfast and a snack of cottage cheese 1.5 hours before bed followed by zma usually right before i go to bed. My sleep time seems excessive. Am I over training? Messing up my sleep schedule 3x a week, not taking enough vitamins/minerals, or taking them at the wrong time? All input is welcome. Thanks Gord.
The number of hours of sleep you get per night isn’t a measure of the quality of sleep. There are other factors. My guess is the fact that there is great variance between when you goto bed and when you wake up is the main cause of your need of extra sleep.
Going to bed at 11pm and waking up at 8am 7 days a week is much preferred to sometimes doing that, but then sometimes going to bed at 3am and waking up at 1pm.
So I don’t think it’s wierd you need to sleep so much based on what your occupation requires from you.
My ex was a bartender. And he would sleep in after working; especially after having to breath in all that second-hand smoke.
After he quit and went onto stock broking fulltime, his sleep schedule became more regular.
Most studies suggest not taking calcium containing foods anywhere near ZMA. The calcium blocks absorption of either the zinc or magnesium.
Thanks folks. I’ve given notice at work so hopefully my schedule will go back to normal. I wasn’t sure how long i should wait after eating calcium prods before taking zma. I’m going to try a good 2hrs tonite.
You’re messing up your Circadian Rhythm by changing what hours you wake and retire at.
