Although I usually get an average of 6-7 hours of sleep per night, I can usually manage (very fortunate) to sneak in a 1-1.5 hour nap. That seems to work very well for me (plenty o energy). Without my 8+ hours per day, I am SHOT (mentally and physically)!
How much sleep do you get per night and does lack of sleep effect your training progress at all?
BodyIQ, I can’t help but think that getting all the sleep you need is one element of recovery and is even CNS-overload protective.
I’ve always done better with a bit more sleep; i.e., about 9 hours or 8 hours and a nap.
Lack of sleep affects more than my training; it negatively affects my WHOLE DAY.
I agree with Tampa Terry.
Personally, I need to go to bed at 10pm in order to wake up at 6-7am and feel very fresh.
I do not perform at a high mental and physical level if I don’t get enough sleep, or am interrupted during the night.
Recently I thought about joining a rowing team, but that would require to wake up at 4:30am (training is from 5am to 7am, 6 days per week).
I tried waking up at 5am two days in a row, and it just doesn’t work - I fall asleep immediately after waking up, sleep until 7am or even 10am, and end up feeling sleepy in the afternoon.
you will get used to it eventually. it’s all about developing habits. eventhough, it’s not good for you.
yeah, if you’re lifting, go 8+
Body,
I think this is an individual question. I know plenty of my buddies who could get by on 7-8 hours, even when training heavy.
On the other hand, I need 9 hours to feel at my best the next day. I have also found that since adding ZMA before bed my QUALITY of sleep has improved tremendously. I couldn’t imagine not taking this now; you should check it out if you are training seriously.
Stay strong
Mike
