ok so im about 200 lbs now, so most people would say that i eat around 200-300 grammars of protein a day. so my question is
more or less you go to the gym, you kill your muscles YAY and now your mind knows it needs to build new ones. so if lets say that same day i ate about 150 grammars of protein, then at night it will probably use all of them to build muscle right?
now if the next day i eat 450 grammars of protein is it the same as eating 300 each day? wahts the difference? will i need more sleep? will i be more tired? quite honestly my main problem is that i wont be killing muscles for nothing, cause being pretty busy this year i cant really have the whole 6-7 meals ~40 grammars per meal every time. and sometimes i wont eat enough or more protein the same day.
so my questions are two. im pretty sure that the more protein you get the more muscle you’ll build. how does getting 150-450 instead of 300-300 affect this? also lately ive been sleepign way too much, and im wondering if its cause i dont eat enough protein so when i wake up i need more sleep and while my mind/eyes arent tired at all, my body is tired.
The larger you are, the most protein you will need to comsume in order to replenish your muscles in order to grow. How much of that protein you need per day depends on how much lean body mass you carry (your total weight - your total bodyfat = lean body mass). The amount you consume should be roughly 2 grams for each pound of that sum.
It looks the same on paper(150-450, 300-300) but in terms of how your body will handle and utilize it it’s not the same. The body doesn’t want to be a lean protein eating muscle building machine, you have to FORCE it to do that. Give it the muscle building tools(protein) in high amounts, consistently throughout the day, consistently for months-years at a time.
The macronutrient that should vary is carbs. You need carbs to help the protein build muscle and to provide energy for the workout. I know you are trying to lose weight while you build so timing is important. Eat some slow carbs about an hour before your workout for energy and then some fast carbs mixed with protein during and after your workout to protect and build muscle. On your off days, you should continue your low carb diet.
Keep a steady supply of protein and nutrients to your body. Fruits and Vegetables are the best source of nutrients.
but thats what im asking… if i cant really have a steady supply, but instead im able to eat 3 times a day, and sometimes for whatever reasons (didnt buy any or im out of money or something) and i end up eating 150 grammars the first day, is it gonna be “replenished” the next day if i eat 450?
im not asking if protein is needed, i know, im just asking whats the difference and how the body will handle it if i eat 150 the first day and 450 the second, compared to if i ate 300 each day?
I think everyone is saying (myself included) is that its best to keep a steady intake of protein on all days. Obviously you will have days when it’s just not possible to hit 300 grams but try your best to keep it even so the body becomes used to having the protein to build up the muscle.
I can’t say what will happen if you do 150 then 450, but thats a pretty big difference and if you do that often I can’t imagine it’d be beneficial.
I wouldn’t purposely cycle protein. Keep it quality and in good amounts and dammit good luck. Just my $0.02
Eat 450 on your workout day and 150 on your off days, if you feel that crazy need. Or go 300/300. I would think that 150 on a workout day is your worst option.
I don’t think that eating an extra 150g of protein the next day will make up for not eating enough the previous day which is what I believe you are asking. It would be similar to saying I can eat this cake today if I don’t eat any carbs tomorrow. I treat each day as completely different so even if I am high/low on nutrients for one day I just start over the next day.
I’m still kinda new at this but I remember reading an article recently that said our body doesnt run on a 24 hour clock and therefor it is kinda dumb to eat more calories on workout days. I think ideally we would eat x amount of calories, protein and carbs etc. each day but whats more important is the average.
Clearly it wouldn’t be good to eat 6000 calories every other day if your shooting for 3000 a day, but being off by a bit here and there isnt going to kill your progress.
lordstorm88, try and get as many calories as you can. I think feeling tired is more a result of carb intake and timing. as far as sleep goes, how much are you getting??? when training i try to get 9 hours or at least set aside time for that amount. If you are new to raining your body may need more time to recover.
the average body can synthesize 35 grams of protein every 3 hours. so if you can eat a meal every three hours, with 35 grams in each meal, then thats the most your body can absorb, anything else is wasted. Just like if you eat 75 grams of protein in one meal, you wasted half of it.so basically the only way to do it is eating often and keeping your body with a protein supply.

FUCK FUCKITTY FUCK FUCK! WHEN WILL THIS DIE!!!
And chads, looking at your pictures, maybe you would benefit from eating more than 35 grams of protein per meal.

yes, the original word is grammars, grams is the shortened version
as for sleep… i sleep until i wake up rather than having to put an alarm
carbs, im trying to limit them since im still trying to lose weight… im not really generally tired when i wake up… its just the muscles that i trained recently that are sore/tired
and i eat way more than 35 grams of protein whenever there is meat or fish. i doubt its wasted… why would the body do something so stupid? as far as i know the body will use the protein it needs for repairs and building new cells and the rest will be used as energy so its not wasted anyway.
