Slammed on Other Boards

No, the idea of a protein sparing modified fast isn’t unique. However, they were generally used on hugely obese people with no real regard to fat vs muscle lost, just overall weight.

Most people lose strength while dieting. On such an extreme diet I was able to up my strength. That means minimal muscle loss. Same for a lot of others who have tried it.

And yes, I’d agree, it is smart marketing. No one was disputing that. But the last time I checked, we live in a country founded on free enterprise and the like. I doubt Tim Patterson and TC went into this thing thinking, “Gee, I sure hope we lose our ass on this here deal!” Yes, anyone who does it gets worked to some extent. But that’s true of anything in life.

Live somewhere? You got worked! Go build a log cabin. Anything you buy for the most part was because someone planned to sell it to you. The simple fact of the matter though is the diet worked. Would the results have been what they were with straight whey and no HOT-ROX, fish oil, Surge and creatine? No.

Are there other ways to diet? Yes. Was this very simple, very fast and very effective? Yes. I stand by what I said. Biotest makes good shit, and the Velocity Diet is a testament to that fact.

Why is it I get slammed on other boards for encouraging the use of Biotest Supplements. It happens at BB.com…I got to argue with MoFo’s particulary some tool name Bruce Kneller…

Bah I still try to puch Biotest over there reguardless and they don’t like it one bit, in fact he tends to slam the way we run the boards here…What gives my peoples…

That tool used to write for us. He left to go write for Muscular Development, at which point he started slamming us.

It’s the classic Glenn Close, boiled bunnies response (from Fatal Attraction).

Last I heard, he’s awaiting trial for one of the largest steroid busts in history (he was caught making large amounts of pro-hormone after the government ban).

I looked at it as Dave Barr discouraging the use of a certain substance (glycocamine) rather than discouraging the use of a certain product. If Muscle Milk didn’t contain glycocamine, then I highly doubt he would have discouraged its use.

Judging by posts on this board in the two-plus years I have been a member, a number of other members use Muscle Milk on a regular basis. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to inform people that a potentially dangerous substance in a popular product could cause damage to the brain. And, as stated earlier, the articel was well-referenced and very professional.

And to the poster whose opinion that the Dave Barr article discouraged the use of Muscle Milk, the bulk of this post is not directed at you. I respect your opinion and understand why you have that perspective. I just ended up looking at it from a slightly different angle (the substance itself).

And you did say that it was a well-written article; I did see that, so don’t think the next paragraph is directed towards you, either.

My beef is with people that come in here, slam the free information given, then want to know about supplements manufactured by other companies that you can buy in the Biotest Store. I appreciate the restraint Biotest shows in these instances as well as the effort put in by the people there to keep producing great supplements.

I completely agree, I was just stating that from a strict point of view, it was one author essentially discouraging use of another product. However, the scientific basis and quality references is what sets this situation apart from just “Our creatine is better because ____” type of thing that many companies engage in.

I found the article very informative, and the knowledge I gained from it was quite useful in my process of considering which protein products to use should I desire to try a new type.

I am a very big fan of Biotest myself, and I support their products and T-Nation at every juncture. Metabolic Drive has earned itself a place in my heart with BCAAs a close second.

On the subject of Biotest hate, I find it frivolous. Sure, Biotest advertises for their products in their articles. This is no surprise, as their products are designed for a purpose and they are advertised on a company owned site. Would one expect them to have a completely unbiased site?

The reality is that like any other company, they are here to make money. However, they make money and provide a great service to readers. Frankly, everyone wins. We buy their products, and we learn a lot while we do so.

We do not have to buy their products, but a vast majority of us do and have found that they work. I come here because there is a community of people who will not hesitate to give me a hardline opinion and tell me to shape up or ship out as need be. I have been on other sites, and now mainly use them just to learn about some of the new products that are coming out.

I just find it interesting. I come to T-Nation for training information and for the best product support I have ever seen.

One of the smartest individuals i’ve ever met when it came to training/nutrition/supplements/steroids was the guy who told me about this place. Since he was so high on T-Nation, I knew there was something about it I had to see.

Been here ever since.

Yep, that’s why I have been here since about issue 5 of T-Nation.
