Glad they’re still able to enjoy some outdoor fun despite the situation!
How old is he? Just curious. You’ve probably mentioned it before.
He’s 7. And kinda in a growth phase. I can’t even call it spurt at this point because he has grown like several inches in the past month or so and his chest and back are filling out like newb lifting gains. I guess his legs are too, but he’s long legged at this point, so a lb. or so on his legs doesn’t look like much.
We do a daily play/exercise thing and it has agreed with him a great deal.
Me too. We’ve had the craziest spring. It has been exceptionally sunny and warm since the beginning of March, which has been awesome for getting out and playing, riding bikes, all things out doors.
Crazy though because there is a huge network of old rail bed converted to walking/biking trails. I’ve seen more people out on these things in a given sunny day than I have in the past 20 some years combined.
That parking lot in the vid. is great though. It used to be the playground/recess for the catholic church/school in the background. The school closed a few years ago, so now it’s only occupied on Sundays for a couple hours.
Also only a couple hundred feet (at that point) from the trail too.
I’m glad your kid is the type to still play outdoors, and not the TV/computer/tablet all day kinds of kids these days. Does he know how to climb a tree? lol
Actually, he’s getting there.
Last fall:
Left to his own devices (haha) he will veg put on YouTube and stuff, but more often than not, lately it takes very little to nothing to get him outside and engaged in physical stuff/play.
I made it a rule (to apply to me) to keep it fun and interesting without drilling him or turning it into a shit fest like some parents do.
What has become one of my morning things.
I’ll do this for a few hundred to get the blood flowing.
Then:
And continue for maybe 6x6 or so.
And that feels pretty good.
The other one I do is an upper body, and a few times I’ve taken the weights down the driveway and I’ll do laps up and down the street. It’s a pretty good street for that. It’s flat in front of the house then takes off pretty steep for about 100 yds. I only go half way.
Also, cardio doc. said I am in great shape. Those were his actual words. We had a really good discussion about that and what I attribute the improvements to. Next check up in October will be a discussion on reducing/eliminating some meds (still on a 7 tablet cardiac stack.)
A heart felt thanks to all of you, especially @EmilyQ @flappinit @whang @dagill2 @dchris @jshaving @anna_5588 @ActivitiesGuy @Basement_Gainz
And anybody I may have left out or who may be just reading along.
I may start ramping up the intensity and whatnot now. I’m not feeling the explosiveness, so I’ll have to work on that too. More explosiver. ![]()
Is that you or Rocky Balboa jumping rope!
Seriously though, great to see you doing so well. We don’t interact often but you seem like a good guy and I’m sure your family appreciates the efforts you’re taking to stick around.
Hey man , glad to hear you’re doing good. Looks like you’ve gone a long way from pure cardio. Good job dude!
Good to see you moving forward man.
And in an impractical jokers shirt, no less.
I now ride my bike up the trail all the time that I could barely walk up a few days out from the event. Its a couple of degrees of rise over like two miles, and I used to stop at every bench along the way.
Now I have to either find more weight (making a couple of calls), move it faster (very likely) and/or more reps.
And thanks. Really.
Love those guys. Me and the wife saw them live at the PPG arena a couple of years ago. That’s where I got the shirt!
It’s one of me and the missus go to shows when we don’t want to have to think much. We even watched all their sketch shows and stuff, just because they seem like stand up guys and we really wanted it to be good.
Maybe it’s an admission, maybe not:
Sunday afternoons are all about The Carbonaro Effect and Impractical Jokers.
TruTv and being lazy as hell!
Congrats! You’ve really come a LONG way. Keep up the good work ![]()

Aw, this is SO good to read! Congratulations and good work!
I can’t tell you how happy your progress and the good news from your doctor made me, dude. Between my dads heart attacks and you having a young son like me, a lot of your story hit home in various ways for me. I really wanted to see you work to get better, but I was worried you’d go my dad’s route. Fortunately, you realized that being around and being healthy isn’t just for you, it’s also for all the people who love you.
And I need you here to make fun of dumb people with, so there’s that.
Nah, you did all the work. Thanks for all the entertainment value in other threads lol!
My heart beats for my wife and son, but that right there is my raison d’etre.
Ha! Made a rhyme by abusing 2 different languages! I kill me! ![]()
