Skinny Fat Advice

Hi guys. This is my first post although Ive been reading around the website trying to answer my question without posting and bugging everyone I figured it was probably better to just ask you guys your advice. Im currently 5’10 and weigh 133lbs.

I realise this is underweight but although having super thin legs and arms I have a large amount of stomach fat.(Ive included some pictures - theyre not great quality I know) Basically I’m wondering where I should go from here.

For the last 3 or 4 months I have been following a restricted calorie diet whilst doing a large amount of cardio (About 6miles running and 12miles biking everyday).

I now realise this isnt going to work for my goals. I want to gain some lean mass (enough to look athletic really) but Im not sure which program I should be using. Ive considered S2B but im not sure if that will work for me

(naturally high BF% its around 14%) as I dont want to gain any more stomach fat if possible, being at university I have found that if i just eat more I just stay the same “shape” get slightly more muscle but gain a lot of stomach fat at the same time.

So guys what do you recommend; ;let me know if you’d like any more info. Cheers.

No program will work for you…

…unless you are actually using it.

Seriously. Don’t ask because we can’t tell you what will work for you. Even if we knew your medical history, your carb-tolerance, whether you have the discipline to follow a program, etc., we couldn’t predict anything.

Scrawny-to-Brawny? Why not? Follow it, eat properly, and then see what happens. That’s really all you can do. By the time you’re done with S2B, you’ll have learned something about how your body responds and you’ll have spent enough time reading on this site to know what programs you want to try next.

Welcome to T-Nation. Now get cracking. Today.

I have a similar body type; skinny with a tendency to store fat around the belly. It looks like youre ‘sucking in’ in those pics but still theres no way youre 14% bf.

A little fat is inevitable to gain muscle, fuck it man dont worry about it just lift and eat, read and learn. If youre serious about things you’ll work out what you need to do.

Good luck.

I did the exact same thing as you, diet and cardio for months. I was 5’ 10’', 130 pounds, and had a similar physique to yours. What you need to do is forget about your belly fat (you’re going to be wearing a t-shirt most of the time, right?) and bulk for a few YEARS before cutting down.

I’ve been bulking for four months and I’ve already made great progress.

Back shot.

Good advice.

Read what you wrote carefully. How can you not know what to do? Go lift some weights and eat a lot of food, you are being ridiculous.

This has to be the worst horror movie of all time. You have not done any reading, I won’t even mention lifting, so don’t lie to us.

I ask that question about most of the shit that gets asked on this forum. Either people are becoming really dumb really quick…or there is truly so much conflicting information and lack of “role models” that they are simply stuck in place.

I just have a hard time believing that there are NO people around most of these guys who actually lift weights, even at the gym.

In high school, I remember being motivated simply because there were several guys in grades above me that looked like the Incredible Hulk compared to where I was. I don’t get what has warped the heads of the guys so much lately that a 130lbs guy at that height would think, “I need to lose weight to get rid of this fat”.

That isn’t “newbie retarded”, it’s just retarded.

I think it’s because although sites like this are telling kids the right things to do, everyone else is not. The recommendation you usually hear is to eat a high carbohydrate, low protein, low fat, 2000 calorie diet split between 3 meals, and to do half an hour of moderate intensity cardio every day.

This is basically a recipe for burning muscle. Everyone talks about losing weight, but gaining weight is only for anorexics. People do not differentiate lean mass from fat mass, any amount of weight lost is seen as a good thing, every if it’s pure muscle.

Thanks for your comments guys. I know its about time I got on with it and stopped moaning about fat gain. I didn’t mean to come across as a total jackass in my first post but reading it back, I can see everyones point. I’ll get on with a proper lifting/eating plan and put my energy into that from now on.

As for being retarded…well I always was a “stubborn” learner lol. Cheers Guys.

That would mean these guys actually go to the gym.

Seriously, there must be a way to avoid getting posts like this - I mean 1 post like this every now and then would be ok, but come on…

Maybe a big banner on the front page under the Spike advert that says “Want to get big? Click here.” Followed by a simple explanation without complications such as meal combinations and functional strength - just the basics.

I fear we will lose all the valuable members here if this continues.

HA HA HA HA HA! Well, the forum sure is full of retarded people!

Sure, there is a lot of information out there. But it all comes down to HARD WORK. And most people are too lazy or undisciplined and don’t want to put in the effort required. Or the time.
