Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries Part 2.0

No, remember I have been alternating days with Tuna salad after my last blood results and talking to my doctor. Reducing red meat intake for a few months to assess impact on cholesterol.

Yeah I know. :worried:

Wil be interesting to see the results.

Personally I took the approach of trying to avoid too many omega 6’s. So grass fed for me only on the red meat for a while now. Less chicken. Also a reduction on sat fats - which meant less red meat overall.

Want to get a blood test again in the next few weeks, see what happened.

I have to go see mine in the next 6 weeks to get a repeat prescription for some medication I take. I will arrange some tests with the DR then and get them done in early September.

I was recommended meds. But chose a dietary intervention as the levels were not that far off perfect to be fair.

Kind of annoyed me that day. She lead with, ā€œI know you’re anti-drugs etcā€¦ā€

I’m not. At all. I’m anti-prescription of drugs when diet or lifestyle interventions have shown to be of equal effect.

Happy to of course medicate if that isn’t possible, but not before trying things out haha.

These young quacks…not great at forward thinking. I often wonder if they receive kickbacks from companies for prescribing certain medications, and therefore creating an accidental cognitive bias.

I could also be paranoid. Hahaha

They do. Sort of. Drug reps are pretty creative. Free dinners. Free samples. Providing free access to conferences and hosting lecturers.

My wife’s clinic (300+ providers) had to just put a complete stop to it a few years ago. The hospital across the street did soon after.

Source: my wife is a doctor, and my sister-in-law had a short stint in medical sales.

The other thing though, is there’s more funding for research from people who make money from it than from people who don’t. So the drug companies fund medical research and, well, farmers usually don’t.

I assume you are in the US ? Pretty sure my local 60+ year old GP in our sleepy suburb is not getting taken out for dates by corporate drug reps. Also in Australia whilst you get a prescription for a drug you don’t get a brand name prescribed. You can ask for a specific brand but also can just get the generic brand which is different depending on what pharmacy you visit.

My doctor is very slow to prescribe anything and always looks at life style factors first, which I like. He is also very quick to order lots oft tests too, which I also like

I think that’s absolutely the right way to do it.

I have a very… complex… relationship with doctors. I spent over 20 years with appointments, medications, scans, tests, surgeries, with no real successes. Then a couple months with a Chinese Medicine herbalist, who literally prescribed me centipede venom in one formula, and he was able to resolve my issues. (To be fair, besides his MD-equivalent in China, he was also retired biochemist and professor from a medical research university in the US.)

Some things the medical industry gets right. Some they don’t. Emergent conditions are handled well, life-threatening chronic conditions handled well. Everything else is a crapshoot.

Wednesday 26 July - week 3

Axle deadlift

Bar x 10
60 x 5
100 x 3
Mixed grip
140 x 2
150 x 5 x 3 sets - (330lbs) - RPE 5, 5, 5
150 x max - 14 reps PR Party !!
First set a little stiff, feeling it in my posterior chain and lower back a little. Set 2 and 3 were better. That last set was good and horrible at the same time. Just the edge of an exertion headache on the last rep. Stopped at the right time to be able to breathe through it. Lower back pump is insane. Had a few more left.

Axle overhead push press
65 x 3 (143 lbs)
65 x 3
70 x 3 (154 lbs) - ok need to brace tighter
70 x 3 - got a bit dizzy - all over the place
70 x 3 - this set was good.
Trying to focus on a quick dip and fast press. Used wraps but still my right wrist was not happy. Speed was ok but lots more work to do.

Bent over Axle rows
80 x 10 x 3 sets (176 lbs)
Hard on the grip and forearms.

Dips
3 sets - 19, 19, 19

Good session. Happy with 14 on axle deadlift. The rest was just work.
