I don’t want to sound too impressed, but I am slightly annoyed that you are a better deadlifter than me.

I am not sure that is true, you are hitting singles and doubles with 200+ and then doing reps. I am just doing straight sets with lighter weights to work on my endurance. Comp at the end of august has max rep axle deadlift in 60 sec.
Hopefully after the comp I can get back to some proper deadlift on a bar and see where I am at.

That’s honestly more like what I should be doing, but I am stupid.

Friday 28 July - week 3

Front squat
Bar x 8
60 x 3
60 x 3
80 x 3
90 x 2
100 x 2
110 x 2
115 x 1 (253 lbs) - PR
60 x 10
Top single was hard, position is still not great.

Bench press
Bar x 10
60 x 5
80 x 3
100 x 2
105 x 4 x 4 sets (231 lbs) - RPE 7, 7, 8, 9
Still nursing my right wrist, but no real issue. Bench felt ok

Pull ups - wide on thick bar
3 sets - 12, 11, 11. Total = 34 reps
12 reps wide grip on a thick bar is pretty darn good for chunky bloke. Happy with the total too.

Good question? Hadn’t even considered it. Didn’t feel like it was heavy enough.

It’s actually now my opinion, after listen to Ivan Durjic discuss it, that front squats are infact a ā€˜back’ exercise.

Our legs aren’t weak.

Our backs are. My back has been Tired for two months.. And it’s from the front squats. And what do you know, my front squat is now much stronger.

At no point in that DJ cycle, were my legs ever feeling fatigued. Ever.

Strongman Saturday log practice

Lots of reps at 63, 73, 78 and 80kg - 60 mins

Working on technique. Still lots more work to do.

I’d often seen front squat as assistance for the deadlift if you’re weak off the floor. I always assumed because it helped with leg drive, but you may be right that it’s actually a secret back exercise.

Front squat is also used as assistance for push press or jerk. Strong upper back helps with overhead for sure

Sunday was chores day, lots of yard work, car washing, cleaning. It was another beautiful sunny winters day around 18C (64 f) - doesn’t really sound like winter to all you northern hemisphere guys I know. Took the kids and wife for a walk to the beach and then after that the wife and I went for another walk and left the kids having some device time. It’s always nice to just walk and talk with the misses away from the noise of the house.

OK so for the parents out there Sunday was a minor explosion day for me. I may have mentioned before but I have a bit of an OCD about the house being clean and tidy. In particular I hate to see mess in the kitchen, especially washing up. I think this all started from living in a shared house with 3 other guys at university and having to live is total mess until I lost it and became cleaning mad.
So I have been working with the kids to have them clean up after themselves. Firstly just getting them to take their plates to the sink, that is step 1. Then coaching them to just wash up their plate and put it on the drainer or in the dish washer, that is step 2 and then lastly to dry up and put away anything on the drainer. Obviously there are aspirational expectations like they see stuff on the drainer and dry it up even though it is not theirs but I am working on the basics first.

Well on Sunday morning I spent all morning outside doing jobs, whilst my wife cleaned the house inside. The kids were reading, playing and listening to music. When I finally came in to have some lunch, 2 of the kids were still eating and my eldest daughter (13) had finished and gone back to her room to hang out. I went to wash my hands before having some lunch and her plate is next to the sink. Great that she actually managed to put it there, not great that she didn’t wash it.
I call her down from upstairs, no response, I ask my son to run up and tell her to come down but she just gets grumpy at him. My other daughter then shouts upstairs, ā€˜you better come down dad is about to completely lose it’ (sounds funny now).
My daughter comes down and when I ask her about the plate she gives me some cheek response, and bang. I explode! I start shouting and ranting for the next to mins. Plenty of choice words and extreme noise that I am not really proud of. Proper 2 year old tantrum by a nearly 50 year old man.
I guess there was a lot of other frustration that boiled over and it really wasn’t about the plate or her response. I am very controlled in my work life and even my training is planned and thought out. The total chaos that comes with children and their inability to listen or remember is other worldly challenging.
Not looking for any advice or sympathy but just wanted to share and say sometimes it all gets too much and I really need to find a better way to deal with it.
