Wednesday 10th May - week 4.

Axle Deadlift

Bar x 10
60 x 5 - doh
100 x 3 -doh
Mixed grip from here in
140 x 3
160 x 6 x 4 sets (352 lbs) - RPE 8, 7, 8, 8

Grip really working hard on these. Mixed grip with chalk. No straps.

To get these reps with no belt, no wraps was Fkn Quality.

Axle OH press (clean first rep)
60 x 3
65 x 5 x 4 sets (143 lbs) - RPE 9, 8, 7, 7

Bit dizzy on the first set. Second set was better but a little shaky. Glutes hurt so much it was hard to lock them down. Happy with the third set.

Decided to keep some reps in the tank and feel Strong.

Pull downs - narrow grip
72 x 12 x 3 sets -
Super set with
Dips
15+ x 3 sets - 16, 16, 16

So happy with deadlift and everything else was just cream on the cake.

Felt really good to just grab the axle and pull it for reps with no fuss. No belt, no straps, no sumo weird stance. Just walk up and lift.

I’ve never pulled an axle before. Maybe I’ll do a block pulling with Fat Gripz? I guess that’s as close as I could get without buying an actual axle.

That’s actually an interesting idea… Maybe spend a block not worrying about PRs and really improve my grip and mechanics, then go back to the regular power bar. Dammit, Simo, now you’ve got me thinking (which is rarely a good thing).

This would deff help work the grip aspect, not sure how close this would be to an axle but I rekon any variation is still a good thing

Getting in some much needed conditioning tonight.

105 burpees. Did these countdown style.
started at 14 reps, took a few breaths the. 13, then 12 all the way down to 1. This really kicked me in the ar$e. Breathing hard and sweating up a storm by the end.

You could deff do that. 14 burpees, 1 swing and then 13 burpees 2 swings etc etc all the way down. Let me know how it goes. I only just got some kettlebells and haven’t thought about the two together before. I know @SvenG does swings with burpees.

Friday 12th May - week 4

Pause tempo squat (really focused on staying tight and opening the hips) no sleeves
Bar x 10
60 x 5
80 x 3
100 x 3 x 3 sets (220 lbs) - RPE 7, 7, 7
I think I am starting to like these. Hips were tight but going slow allowed me to focus on opening up and sinking down.

Bench press -
Bar x 10
60 x 5
80 x 3
100 x 2 (220 lbs)
105 x 4 x 4 sets (231 lbs) - RPE 8, 8, 8, 8
Reps with a slight pause. Nooice

Pull ups - thick bar
3 sets
8 8 8

Kept the rests a little longer because I wanted to do all the sets with unbroken reps. Big back pump after these to go with my big chest pumps. Quality

Dumbell curls (alternating)
20 x 10 x 3 sets
Arms felt like they were going to split. This must be what @TrainForPain feels like all the time.

I am on fire right now. Feeling very hard to kill. So good.

Strongman Saturday today I decided to do a sandbag pick and carry medley. I blame @Koestrizer for this stupid idea.

55KG slam ball
62KG sandbag
80KG sandbag

Did three rounds and it kicked my ar$e.

Beautiful sunny autumn day here. Washed the car after lunch and then went for a walk to the beach with the misses and the kids. All up just over 6km walk (4 miles). Was great to enjoy the sun and keep the body moving.

Monday 15th May - week 5

Squat
Bar x 10.
60 x 5.
80 x 3
Sleeves on cause I am old
100 x 3 felt easy as they should
120 x 2
Added a belt for practice
140 x 1 - felt good
145 x 4 x 5 sets (319 lbs) - RPE 8, 8, 8, 8, 8
Felt ok. Deff heavy. Right quad and knee a little grumpy. So happy to get these done. These have to be some of, if not THE BEST squat i have done at this weight In terms of depth and RPE for reps. Very happy

Bulgarians
70 x 3 sets (35kg Dumbell each hand)
1st set 5 reps each leg. Puffing so hard and really wobbly.
2nd set 6 reps each leg - damn
3rd set 7 reps each leg - arrrrrggghhhh

Db bench
35 x 12

Superset with
Dumbell row (single arm) knee on a bench
35 x 8 x 3 sets
Dropped the weights on bench and row and went for quality. Was really dizzy after legs.

Really really happy with squats tonight. Legs were sore and knee was grumpy but got the job done. Total Fkn Quality
