Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

Essentially we can’t plan anything with any certainty for now. Tis a shame, great you can just keep on lifting heavy shit at home though.

Thanks for thinking of me, mate.

I would seriously be shitting myself with all the lack of clarity around the comp date. But shoot, I guess you will just get a bit stronger if they delay it a bit.

Part of me thinks this but part of me Also knows I can only stretch the rubber band so far. If they put it back 8 weeks I can deload and re peak but if it’s 2 weeks I have to keep pushing which is going to be a bit of a risk.

Feeling a little of what @T3hPwnisher described in his log this morning. Took me a long time to find the motivation to get socks on and the morning walk with the dog was like a robot from a bad sci fi tv series.
No news yet about the comp next week but the number of covid cases is increasing and they are already talking about an extended lock down. Feeling pretty bummed out right now, mentally this comp has given me a great destination to work towards and just the thought that it might not happen or be moved is starting to put me in a spin. I have realised as I get older that am a person who needs to have a plan or something to aim for. I really don’t so well just floating down the river. Fingers crossed comp still happens but not confident

I really don’t get this peaking thing, is it like a big push before a long deload, to hit the competition with no fatigue?

Yes basically. It’s the same for running. You build up and up in training and increase your strength (of endurance for running) but all that training takes it’s toll. Typically at the end of a leaking phase you are starting to break. Body is fatigued, sore etc. The weeks leading into the comp you don’t do a whole lot, just hit a few reps to keep the rest off. (For running the week into a race was always a time to eat and fill up your muscle glycogen stores). This week allows the body to recover and should take you into comp feeling ready. Usually weights that feel heavy in the last week of training feel a lot lighter in comp if you get it right.
Obviously I can just keep training and try to maintain the strength but If the intensity is too high eventually you plateau and then go backwards.

jump off the deep end and join the dark side at WSBB ahah…but regardless you will do great with anything you do.

Lol I reckon WS training would kill me :joy:

Could you do a personal comp? That way the peak isn’t wasted and you do get to try out the weights you planned on doing for the comp itself.

Yes mate that is pretty much what I ended up doing last year. Just test the lifts on my own in the shed. Still haven’t heard from the comp organiser yet. Still hoping the lockdown down is only 7 days and the comp still happens. I will taper next week anyway and if something changes then I’ll either do a test or just keep rolling on.

Thats what I would do.

There is a way to do it so a natural lifter does not die lol

OK so still no news from the comp organizers, and too early to know whether lockdown will be extended. I am going to do the taper week this week as planned and if anything changes later in the week then I will decide.
The comp I am doing is run by GPC, but one of the other feds in Australia PA (powerlifting australia) looks to be in all sorts of trouble this weekend. The CEO Robert Wilks (the guy who came up with the wilks scoring formula) has stepped down as CEO following some allegations that I wont go into on here. Just google and you can read the news report. My guess is that there will need to be a full review and re-structure of PA and Lots of lifters will leave PA. It is going to be interesting to see what happen and what feds come out stringer as a result of this.
