I think I learned a new word. Aggots. But whatever, you hit 120.

The Bulgarians actually weren’t too bad. This weight is kinda low and if I keep the reps under 10, I don’t seem to get doms too bad.
Bulgarians are some nasty shit, your doing well with 50kg
Way to get it the second time. This could probably be a double on a better day, maybe a month from now
Balance is significantly harder than weight especially with a barbell.
Loving the commitment to keep reps under 10 by doing weird-ass sets of 9.
Mate that is all the program. I just do what ever numbers coach sets. Something I have learnt doing this type of programming is that there are more options that just 2, 5 and 10. I have been doing lots of 4’s and 6’s and 7’s. I think it’s really easy to get stuck in those old 8-12 is bodybuilding and powerlifting do 2’s 3’s and 5’s.
Where’s the autoregulation at though?
What is autoregulation ? Are you suggesting I would change the program each day based on how I feel ??
I’ve just got images of you turning green, ripping a sweater off and smashing out rep 2.
Edit: i was disappointed to watch the video and find out this wasn’t true.
Nah max oot when feel good
Nice humble-brag there, mate.
I am still a rank amateur at these, so 50 kilo sounds like it would burn like hell. One of the interesting things about the Bulgarians, for me anyway, is the lactic acid effect. I mean, I basically never get that with regular squats unless I am purposely doing them like fast cardio reps.
No autoreg, coach says we are training not testing. I do very occasionally and a few reps to the volume work and go for a cheeky amrap, but never increase eye weight and go for singles.
@MarkKO will probably be able to give a detailed reason as to why It’s not allowed !!
I get this too, I think it has to do with the speed of the reps and the continuous tension. Burn baby burn
Yeah, that makes sense. Even at the top, you are still exerting quite a bit of force. No rest as such, because the joints don’t really lock out.
Because feelings lie to us.
Yep and numbers are pure. Just do the work.
Does performance lie though?
Counterpoint, just to provoke the conversation a little: Was it not your feelings that in some way aided you hitting that 120 after the first failed attempt?
I actually agree with and see the value of both sides of this.
Actually yes, sometimes you can perform well despite how you feel. If you were to trust auto regulation you wouldn’t even bother trying. Mark will know better than me, but often when you get near the end of a peak you feel trashed and performance is often not great. But you trust the program and do the work. On the day of you get it right then you have prepared yourself for the best chance to perform well.
If you’re training with a specific end point, absolutely. Performance just tells you what you can do on a given day. Unless you have specifically prepared to perform on that day, the fact that you can perform tells you nothing outside of that.
