Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

Everyone looks up to people better than them. It would be hard to do it the other way round

Thursday 12th March week 2

Deadlift
Bar x 10
65 x 5
105 x 3
125 x 3
145 x 3
160 x 5 x 5 sets (352 lbs) RPE- 8 8 8 9 9
Little slower than I wanted. These actually felt tough tonight. First one in a while where it felt heavy. Lower back pump was full on after these.

Squat 310
Bar x 10
65 x 5
85 x 3
105 x 2
110 x 5 x 4 sets (242 lbs)
Was meant to be four sets of 5 reps but my legs were cooked from yesterday’s squats and my back was pumped from deadlifts. Cut the sets short because form was getting off a bit.
Reps - 3, 3, 3, 2

Bench
Bar x 10
65 x 5
85 x 3
95 x 6 x 3 sets (209 lbs) RPE 9, 9, 8
Felt a little heavy and slow but got them done

Db row
37.5 x 9 x 5 sets
10 breaths between sets, these were hard.

This was the hardest session I have done for a while. I think having one less rest day definitely had an impact. 3 sessions in 4 days is no joke. Glad I have 3 days to rest before next week.

That’s a lot of good pulling at 160. Your gym going to stay open for a while yet?

Why wouldn’t it ??

There’s this thing going around, maybe you have heard. Random packs of rabid wallabees.

I did hear something the other day but thought it was a joke. We don’t really know or care what the rest of the world does down here. :joy:

To be fair, you guys have much more dangerous stuff to worry about than population ravishing viruses.

Funny thing is you are right. More people die of snake bites down here than a fking cold!!

I just figure that the virus takes one look at the Australian environment and gets the hell back on the plane.

Lol unfortunately we aren’t immune to it. Businesses here are already implementing measures to reduce travel and keep sick people at home if they are suspected of having the virus or contact with anyone who does. We haven’t stopped public events yet but it may come soon. The gym was still pretty full of people tonight so no mass panic yet. It’s the Arnold here next weekend which I will go to, so I am hoping it doesn’t get cancelled.

We’re approaching half panic, half everything is normal here. Yesterday I saw a sign in a bathroom above the sinks that had different choruses you could sing while washing your hands so you got the recommended 20 seconds.

Strong deadlifting!

Same here they were talking about that on the radio yesterday!!

I’m just relieved that it seems like children are unaffected by it, so our boy should be fine. Mrs KO and I would get sick, maybe badly, but shouldn’t die.

I just find it difficult to work up much fear about something I cannot realistically influence. I’ve always been pretty clean, now I just wash my hands somewhat longer.

Same here Mark. Most kids unaffected and don’t show symptoms so that is good. Healthy adults get a bad cold. I can cope with that.
The hysteria regarding this virus seems disproportionate to the danger. It’s like someone has an agenda by flooding the media with the virus and causing panic !!

Nailed it! But I don’t know who… This is having a bigger impact on us than 9/11.

I’ve heard that they’ve canceled NBA and NHL games and I’m sure they’ll cancel the college basketball tournaments. That almost seems unAmerican. I don’t really care about the professional stuff, but a lot of people rely on those events to make money and this is going to crush them. I guess this is one of those rare good times to be a cop. I always have a job to do. It could be the zombie apocalypse and they’ll probably send me out there with a riot shield and baton.

What with all the bulk buying people are doing they will probably be out of batons so you will get a medium size stick!!!

I think sadly it is likely just a case of the vast majority of the media no longer knowing how to do anything other than create panic.

No training tonight as I have done my sessions for the week. Really pleased to have three days to rest. My legs, glutes and back have major DOMS today. Bending down to pick something up off the floor was in slow motion!!

Next weeks training is a little lighter than this week. Because of the number of weeks to comp I am doing a 5 week accumulation block rather than the normal 3. To manage the fatigue the third week is a slight drop back in weight and volume and then it ramps up in weeks 4 and 5. After that I will have 4 weeks to the comp to peak.

I genuinely see it as a sign of how easy most people have life these days that the general reaction seems to be ridiculous bulk buying.

Not to play down the virus. If unchecked, it seems likely that a not insignificant amount of people would die. But toilet roll mountains aren’t changing that. There’s sensible precautions to take to make sure that percentages of your population aren’t wiped out, then there’s being an idiot and building a toilet roll fort
