Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

Should have said vids are
Deadlifts - set 2 and set 4 (of 4)
Squats set 2 of 3
Bench sets 1 and 3 (of 3)

It became obvious upon watching said vids. At least, until that blonde girl kinda showed up in the background.

Both bench sets looked a lot better. Looks like you really get the heels to traps cue.

I still find myself slipping back down if that makes sense. Just need to get tighter.

That gets better with time

Looking good, you’ve improved everything so much.

You are too kind my friend. When you only focus on a few things it is not that hard to get better.

Do not think I’m too kind Rob. I really mean it, you progress have been outstanding.

I’ve tried to focus on the big three and I do not get much better. Form is better, but I’m struggling with the weights. I could just eat away, which I think is something I should do, considering I’m always a bit annoyed I miss my reps and weights.

I think it is very hard to progress in strength if you are not eating enough. I haven’t really changed my weight that much. End of 2018 I was 89kg and now I am about 87-88kg. You don’t need to keep getting fatter but a certain amount of size does help. I think the hardest part is finding the right program and then having the patience to follow it slowly for a long time. My training hasn’t really changed in more that 3 years. I have made some good progress but when you break it down by week or month it is slow and steady.

I don’t comment much on your log anymore, because I have nothing to add, but @mortdk is right. Your progress is fantastic and proof of how basic and smart programming can tick every box.

Exactly, that’s why I’ll gain a couple of kg’s, I’ve been losing too much after new year.
I’ll stick to Jims work for most of 2020 and see where I end if I’m following his work. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try you approach.

Thanks mate. And feel free to chime in no matter what. It’s the general conversation about training that I love and that I usually learn something from.

Good Sunday just chilling with the kids today. Then out for dinner with the wife and kids tonight. Good times.
Son wanted me to get my old BMX down and ride with him. I haven’t ridden it in a few years and boy was I rusty!! Right knee is a little angry tonight. Nothing to worry about it just obviously didn’t like the heavier me trying to do tricks !!!

Physique looking strong in these videos Simo! Your forearms alone are intimidating.

Thanks @littlesleeper I posted these vids on Facebook and a mate of mine made a comment about the skinny kid in the background only going to the gym to look at his phone. My mate who does my programming and also competes, comments
“That kid haha. Look at the poor bastards neck…
And he probably thinks you are full of drugs. Haha.”
I don’t usually think of myself as intimidating or big in any way. I’m not very tall and whilst bigger than average I am far from large. Then I looked at this video again and I guess everything is relevant. Compared to a young kid starting out I probably can seem intimidating and do look big…ish.

It’s all a matter of perspective.

Looking back is always the easiest way to see how wrong you were in the past. I remember thinking I was getting some muscles in high school. I even wore some snug shirts to show off. And then I saw some pics a few years later and realized I was still a toothpick.

I think we tend to focus on people bigger and stronger than us because 1) we want that and b) we know how hard they’ve worked. The people smaller and weaker kind of blend into the background for me. I don’t mean that to be an insult; I just don’t take any time to watch them or admire them so I forget.

I 100% notice this myself. I only compare myself against people who look like they lift or lift like they lift. Since that only really includes people who are stronger or bigger than me (because anyone smaller/weaker can’t be very serious, right?), it paints a very narrow picture.
