I just had a look at your squat at your last meet and your wrapped reps.
Once you’re accustomed to the wraps and get them on reasonably tight I’d be surprised if you weren’t good for somewhere around 165-170. If you can work with slightly stiffer wraps, even better because you’ll get really good rebound that ideally would push you through that sticking point just past parallel.
The last top set at the comp in October was 152.5kg. That wrapped set i did last night was 145, actually it was more like 150, I have this thing where I always count bars at 15 even through most of them are 20 (dont ask its just a thing). Last night was a deload week where I was pretty tired and not peaked. That rep last night moved really easy, like easier than an opener. I think with all the squatting I have been doing I may be good for 160+ in sleeves. I had in my head that add another 10 to that for wraps so I think you are right.
This all has me thinking if I shouldn’t consider dropping some money on some good sleeves. I don’t want to use wraps, because I am never going to compete, but it sounds like really good sleeves might actually be useful?
The only ones I have are these cheapos I use once in a while if my crusty old knees are bothering me.
Even if it’s just to make your knees feel better, I would say get some. If you want a bit of help from them then just get a smaller size (competition fit). I think they deff help.
Didn’t you mention about a million posts ago about some rather expensive sleeves? I am not well versed in what to look for (materials, thickness, etc.).
I am no expert either, SBD and Titan seem to be popular and I think are about $100 a pair. I bought some from an Australian gymwear company called Iron Tanks gym gear.
I am tagging in some others who may be able to help with advice on good sleeves. @T3hPwnisher@MarkKO@Frank_C@guineapig@flipcollar@Vincepac1500
@Cyrrex SBD and Titan are designed to give you some degree of carryover - whether they do or not is debatable, but it’s worth bearing in mind. Definitely good quality, but you pay for it.
I would look at Elite FTS, and also Spud Inc. They tend to be good value without sacrificing quality.
And I am guessing the idea here, if I want to get any compression/bounce at the bottom is to be looking at the Tight Fit sizing. Looks like I can easily get both Titan and SBD here.
Sleeves are pretty similar. Just neoprene. Fit may be slightly different like the SBDs being tapered. Can’t go wrong with any decent brand
Just go for the ones that are most readily available to you or cheapest in the price range. Some retailers may give you the opportunity to try some on like at a meet or booth or brick and mortar place.
Anything 7mm from a reputable brand should be fine. You only really need to worry about picking specific sleeves if you plan to compete in a federation. Only certain brands are IPF approved. This doesn’t mean they are better just that they paid enough to the IPF to be affiliated.
