Simo - The Red Shoe Diaries (Part 1)

Thx man. Not feeling like a monster of the iron currently but I enjoy it.

I’ll second that sentiment!

More alike than you might think man. That’s pretty darn spot on. I’d only add something like when doing anything it’s all or nothing. I hate half assing anything.

Lol yes I did miss that one and know exactly what you mean.

You put me in some August company there mate. Very kind.

I’m very particular about the company I keep and glad to include you.

Damn that’s a lot of work in that last workout. How long did it take? What program is it, if any?

Impressive!

There was a bit a work there.

All up the session was about 90 mins.

A friend of mine sets up my programming for me. I cycle between volume/hypertrophy blocks and intensity/strength blocks. The training blocks are between 4 and 6 weeks long and the weight and volume of work increases across the training block. This was the last week of a 4 week Intensity block hence the session was a little longer.

Nice! I like it!

I like that little ramble Simo, as @jackolee I’m a lot like you in the last sentence

That sums everything up pretty nice.

Oh and feeling a bit humble that you mentioned me in there. Thanks brother

You are correct. I’m the same way. I’m not sure if it’s a tiny bit of humility, ignorance, or just plain old self degradation, but I rarely feel satisfied. The logs have a way of making me feel inadequate.

  • Damn, I wish I was as strong as that guy.
  • Man, I wish I was that lean.
  • Crap, that guy is stronger and leaner than me. I’ve got work to do.

It’s damn near impossible not to see the awesome stuff other people are doing and downplay what I’m doing. I think it can be a positive and negative outlook - we’re never satisfied and want to do more but we can also miss the positive things in our lives.

I try to find a way to enjoy each day of my life (I fail most of the time). It’s easy to get caught up looking forward. I look forward to my days off work. I look forward to a particular event. I look forward to being done with my cut and looking awesome. I look forward to having no pain and dysfunction in my hip. It’s always forward though. Sometimes I have to remind myself that there’s also the here and now. When I only look forward I tend to miss the present. Sadly, I wake up one day and wonder where the last week, month, or year has gone. Life’s too short to live that way.

Enjoy the moment; be proud of what you are now! (general statement for all of us)

Thanks for the shout out @simo74, much appreciated brother. T-Nation was the primary motivation and source behind my decision to compete, reading and comparing to others on the website in a positive and meaningful way. Great work man, absolutely awesome to see your progress!

THIS, x 100. You are who you surround yourself with, you are who your environment shapes you to be. In controlling our environment, we can control our own evolution. Always maintain this quality, it will serve you well!

Awesome post Simo. Just to let you know, I see your progress & am inspired by it. You’ve done really well and have a lot to be thankful for and proud of. You and other folks on here make me want to improve, and that’s what surrounding yourself with good people is all about. Have a good Sunday brother

Great reply @Frank_C thanks for sharing.

This is deff me I see all the PRs and amazing progress others make and forget my own achievements.

I have a genuine problem with this. I am a very planned type of person. So I often am looking forward to the next something. The next session, the next kids sporting comp, the next holiday, the next meeting at work. I worry that I miss huge chunks of life because I’m too distracted about the next thing. Your post is a great reminder of the importance of being present and in the moment. I am going to really try harder to do this. Thanks for bringing this up.

I need a t shirt with this on and I need to really try to do this.

I have an amazing wife, 3 great kids, I’m healthy, fit and strong, have a great job that I love and live in one of the best cities in the world. I have so much to be thankful for.

Thanks @muskratlifts they are very kind words. I think because we are all high achievers we always look to the person ahead of us. The funny thing is, we all see each other as the person ahead in different ways. So when all is said and done we are actually all just together. Friends sharing a common interest and many common goals.

Woke at 82.8kg this morning. Bad food choices this weekend including beers, chips and other yummy things. I did however manage to pass on a custard doughnut and give it to the kids instead.
I’ll try to keep the diet a little tighter this week and see if I can finish this week a little closer to 80kg. That way I’ll be ready for the beach !!
