What’s the point of max out for weight on a db fly? I’ve never heard someone ask “hey how much do you DB fly”
So I ask you: Why do you think that I did dumbbell flies?
I sure didn’t do them to get strong at them. I did them to increase the size and improve the shape of my pecs. Remember I lifted weights to look better naked.
IMO, a 1 rep max on dumbbell flies has no value, but injury risk in the stretched position (if an injury is of any value.)
And sadly it’s not in the “max out a plate loaded machine and rep it out” kind of way

I’m a grown ass man who has been lifting very heavy stuff for 25years now. I did have a rough time in my late 30s early 40s and to be very honest, Eric is a big help on me coming back better than ever!
Not many people under 200 have carried a 700# yoke and done over 800 in training. I never dropped that 700 in contest. Especially back in 2007. My yoke was not welded, it shook with every step. I obviously have a little bit of talent because I didn’t know any 180 guy who did it. There was some I’m sure and more now, I’m sure.
If you like the way you look, keep on doing what you are doing.

What works better? 4reps? Multiple sets of singles?
I’ve done them, didn’t work as good for me as just hitting a rep PR with medium weight either before or after taking an attempt with new heavy weight for 1-rep or even just budging it.
In fact, most of my injuries all happened on rep 2 or higher on my top lift sets. The once exception was when I didn’t do any higher rep warmup before one of my 1-rep lifts about 4-5years ago. I did the traditional 1-3reps for warm ups. Now I do more reps up to 10s mostly. I see you did 2 sets of 10s. See if I can get 1-set of 10 and I want to do another set of 10, I will at least add 5#. Why stick with the same weight again, you always do better on set 2, at least I do anyway.
That tip is me teaching the coach……

That’s why they should be done, because no one is doing nor cares to ask someone what their max dumbell fly is.
I personally think the instead of doing the typical workout everyone is doing with them is get in the sets of 10 pyramiding up, then go for a heavy rep. I don’t see the point in set after set with them for 10s forever and ever.
I also don’t have access daily to a bench or a gym. I go to a gym about every two weeks if I’m lucky, everything else is garage, I don’t even own dumbells. Gotta get in the best most useful way.
