A buddy of mine at the gym asked me why I thought his shoulder “clicked” whenever he did overhead work. I told him I thought he should go see a sports oriented physiatrist (sp?) or ortho.
He asked one of the floor trainers at our gym and the trainer told him “not to worry” “he is getting NASEM certified” and will be able to help him out during his complimentary training session.
This kinda bugs me.
does anybody have an idea of what this might be so I can tell my buddy if the trainer is full of shit?
Mine was a weak rotator, but it was part of a chain reaction of having a weak hip on the same side. He can take care of it by himself, if this is his case, but it will take a lot of body awareness in the gym and throughout his daily activities.

texass,
My right shoulder pops when I move it at a specific angle, it doesn’t hurt and was never injured. -Is this what you mean by clicking?
Is there any pain or is it just a popping? Is it when he raises or lowers his arms? both? Mine do the same when at full hang during pullups. I’m going to get x rays next week. either way tell your buddy to get professional help. Most trainers aren’t doctors, and shouldn’t act like one. I’m NASM certified and would never think I could pin point a shoulder injury. I train through mine, but there is no pain, only the popping for me.
