Shoulder Click and Pop

My right shoulder clicks and pops when I move it in certain directions. There is a slight decrease in the range of motion too. It feels like it’s crunching when I do arm circles. I went to a sports clinic and the doctor conducted an x-ray. He sent me on my merry way home because nothing showed up on the x-ray. That doesn’t mean that there’s nothing wrong with my shoulders though. I believe it’s mostly muscular.

Anyway, my questions are:

  1. Could this be a rotator cuff injury? If not, any ideas what it could be?

  2. What exercises should I do to prevent shoulder injury and what should I avoid? (note: I used to do parallel bar dips like crazy and I used to lean forward to target my chest and anterior deltoids)

and

  1. Does deep tissue massage help? Maybe I can get massages in place of myofascial therapy.

ps: My shoulders are pretty rounded and I have kind of a head hunched forward posture.

Thanks guys!

You need an MRI.

What makes you feel an MRI is necessary?

Isn’t an MRI a bit of an overkill?

I am a physical therapist so hpefully I can help you out. Mri’s are not just handed out like candy and cost ~ 1k a piece. YOu mentioned crepitus aka crackign but do you hae pain? If there is no pain I wouldnt worry about it. Granted I would read the shoudler’savers articles on here and avoid upright rows/ behind th eneck press/pulldown variations.

Diesel Crew as stated above, it made wonders for my shoulders.

Having seen you on the combat forum… are you a boxer? If so, then this kind of shoulder issue is very common.
