Funny story, the first time I ever trained at a real powerlifting gym, I showed up in low top Chucks and caught so much shit about it that I went and got high tops the next week. No joke.[/quote]
Thats hilarious… but why on earth did you get the low tops? hahaha.

You have no idea. Just never ever play basketball barefoot on an outdoor court.

Shoes are so fucking unimportant that i dont even bother tying mine. Its literally that small of a deal.

Sounds like I’m overcomplicating this. I guess I’ll just get something relatively flat that feels like its got good grip.
I use to have granite fitted orthotics but they eventually cracked and were discarded. Now I’m using generic ones which are “squishy”. Today on the advice of H4M I DLed in Socks and got a new PR. Not that I’m that high yet or anything for a PR to mean much.

No one told me otherwise, and they were $1 at Wal Mart!

Fuck it, for that kinda price, i’d duct tape up some heels on them bitches.
But yea, just get some Chucks.
That said, if you’re so worried about the hole “i wanna train close to barefoot thing” then just get some fucking ballet slippers, their like $9 to the vibrams $90. Better to make a $9 mistake in my mind than a $90 mistake, and their good for deadlifting.
This message brought to you by someone that has 6 different pairs of shoes for different events.
OP, how much are you lifting that you need to worry about this?
If you want to listen to the doctor, keep listening to the doctor and see where that gets you. Does he specialize in knees, or powerlifters?
If you want to listen to the guys who have been doing this for 20 years or more, get some inexpensive, flat chucks or wrestling shoes, dont bother tying them, and lift hard enough to leave your balls on the floor when you leave.
your shoes matter as much as your hair style and the color of your underwear.
I tried chuck’s and they were ok, certainly better than normal running shoes. I was all set to pony up for a pair of weight lifting shoes until I accidentally came across my old adidas high wrestling shoes. I tried them out one day and fell in love. Really thin flat sole. They’re ideal for deadlifting but are really helping my squat too. Much better than the chuck’s i was using.
Yea shoes aren’t a big deal. I used to wear Chucks but last year I bought a pair of PL shoes. They’ve got a very slight heal, kind of the middle ground between Chucks and OL shoes and that suits me well. I still have to admit though that I don’t notice THAT much of a difference.
I have Vibrams and love them, but I agree with what was said above about skate shoes. Vans, Airwalks (do they even still exist?), and the like feel much better to me than Chucks do.

Why would they give you shit about low top Chucks?
Interestingly enough, the first PL gym I went to, I wore Chucks and got shit for trying to squat in “basketball shoes”. Everyone there wore weightlifting shoes (very old school).
