His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa has completed the challenge

Allamdullilah!

LOL his highness uses fake plates. That bar doesn’t have 220kg loaded on it.

What a pathetic display of narcissism.

So then, it’s over, right?

I do find that bar pad adorable.

Let’s bring back some awesome squat challenges though. This was a classic from Kroc

Ministry’s Just One Fix would have been much more appropriate for his majesty’s display with his bar pad and blue discs.

It’s a different kind of fix, but a fix all the same.

I didn’t watch the video. How can you tell it’s fake?

If it is real… and a high level CrossFit might have something like this… consider that perhaps you are dealing with an Iron Shiek. This is particularly true if Nikolai Volkoff appears in the video, the phrase ā€œcamel clutchā€ is used, or if at any time any video participant utters the words ā€œShiek number one! Russia number one! USA? Pah! Phooey!ā€

By watching the video. If you have any experience squatting, you’ll be able to tell right away just from the unracks.

You and I are just unaccustomed to the craftsmanship accessible to royalty. His highness uses the most rigid barbell on the planet, constructed of experimental alloys that perform to his majesty’s heavy squatting preferences.

The barbell not flexing is part of it for sure, but you also know from unracking a 400+lb squat that it’s going to ā€œsinkā€ into your body when you do that. Even with a barpad.

Which, also: the barpad will compress in those circumstances.

It seems like having that much weight with a bar pad would be somewhat dangerous on it’s own. I wouldn’t know, I never tried it.

I once worked up to a heavy single of 220kg with a Texas Squat Bar and it felt like it was ready to roll off my back. The thick bar made more sense when I realized it was made for monsters in squat suits. I can’t imagine how the surface area of a bar pad would change a heavy squat.

I got to use a Texas Squat bar in a strongman competition where we were squatting with tires to tap a platform, and now that you mention it I saw a LOT of folks lose the bar and zero the event. Makes sense. For me, with my mutant low bar set-up, I more noticed how the diamond sharp knurling tore into my skin through my competition shirt, haha.

I found it fascinating that he didn’t appear to break out in a sweat at all.

I break a sweat working towards 100reps with 100# in 40degree weather.

BEAST, even if the plates are fake!

Here’s a real 40 rep squat, but oh he’s wearing a belt though (sarcasm)

I didn’t come that close to losing it but I’m low bar as well. The thicker bar just didn’t settle into the same groove in my traps that my Goldilocks Texas Power Bar does. It felt way off.

And yeah, probably the sharpest knurling I’ve ever felt on my back too. I never used that bar again after that. That big diameter squatting is for the powerlifters and royalty.

I wonder if the Sheik even knows what’s going on.

His trainers probably pile on fake weights and tell him he’s doing great. Then he feels good about himself, like he’s awesome at the gym. And the trainers get to live in the palace.

Sh. Nasser Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa

What kind of middle eastern royalty would he be without some torture allegations on his wikipedia page? He probably just made his prisoners do high rep squats.

Look at how the trainers load the plates, they wouldn’t move them that way if the weight was 20 kilos
Also HH does look like a pretty fit guy but not at all built like someone who can squat with 220 kilos for reps

I’m wondering if anybody can do this without dying lol

Just the 2x10 with 220 kilos with a short rest probably eliminates all but a few strongmen, powerlifters or exceptionally strong bodybuilders, but that’s not even considering all the lighter, high rep sets leading up to it with minimal rest which would probably burn them out.

I was wondering this as well. I can’t imagine anyone outside of maybe top strongmen who could ever do this challenge.

It’s part of the reason I posted that Kroc video: to put things into perspective. Here’s a few more top performances to realize just how nutty it would be for anyone to accomplish this
