Well I believe after reading all of this, is that, why do you need a fuckin camera when you have a gasp SIDE JUDGE! Look, after a lift has been passed or failed, I dont think that you can go and say to the table “well Id like to change my red light to a white” or vise fucking versa. You can make the internet judges happy, but it wont change the damn lift 4 days after the comp. If it did, Frankl would not have a world record total today!!! (exception of Hoff- the fucking asshole) I think that there should be no side taping- youll get in the way of the side judge and hinder him from doin his job- make sure legit lifts ger white lights, and make sure shitty lifts get red lights. Apperantly looking at shawns lift, The side judge just didnt want to do his damn job that night… And I dont give a flying fuck what you think either![/quote]
Most of that post made absolutely no sense, but in response to this:
“why do you need a fuckin camera when you have a gasp SIDE JUDGE!”
Because judges lie or fuck up. Video does not.
If the whole world has the ability to see how terrible the judging is, then it puts pressure on the organization to either get its shit straightened out, or risk losing its credibility with the powerlifting community.

True statement. Look at what it did to the WPO.

Was it really the judging that brought down the WPO? I thought it was Kidder not paying the lifters. Is there something more to it? (I was actually going to say “wtf are you talking about?” until I looked at the user name. New avatar is throwing us off dude.)
Also, one point to consider in favor of banning side-filming. A film put on the internet that can be paused, slo-moed and and watched multiple times is not the same as judging a lift that you get to see once and only for a split second. Bad calls will happen, but that doesnt mean they need to be held up and dissected ad nauseam
Uhmmm, that was his final down fall but from my perspective, the internet put significant heat on the WPO/APF in regards to lifts that were getting passed. It became a common joke/source of trolling over at Outlaws.
Historically, I could easily be incorrect but my recollection is that videos of lifts that were getting passed on the big stage started the dissent which basically became a snowball that smashed Kidder where he lived when he started bouncing checks.

I agree with this.
Unless something is real ridiculous I just try to keep my mouth shut.
Once you appreciate the time, discipline, and mental toughness it takes to compete in the sport at a high level, it becomes more difficult to bash other lifters from video where I basically assume they were at least competing on a level playing field (consistend judging).
Having said that, I just hate the concept of “All Time Records.”

I question that assertion. Several friends and friends of friends lifted in the WPO. We are/were APF lifters, so the WPO was clearly the apex of achievement for the first half of the this decade. While all joked about some of the judging issues there, I never heard any of them refuse to lift in the WPO meets because they thought the judging was loose. In fact, the judging was very similar to what we saw (and still see) in Kieran’s APF meets. As best as I can gather the deal breakers for most were the following:
-WPO meets were often poorly run form a lifter’s persepective. Warm-ups areas were underequipped. Lifters were not given adequate time to warm up. This- especially given that you had guys that were opening with 1000 lb squats- made for a chaotic experience.
-Personal clashes with Kieran Kidder
-Getting stiffed on prize money
I know there were some in the lifting community who saw the judging as the WPO’s greatest weakness. But I think that’s not what made lifter turn away.

Good lifting. Is there anyone that lifts at BIG that isn’t a badass? I swear, I haven’t heard of anyone with a sub-2000 total from BIG in the longest.

I think you bring up a valid point as to what turned lifters away, which is the ultimate demise of any fed.
I guess I was approaching it from a broader “community based,” approach.
I just remember for the longest time Sweeney making asinine posts about the lifting standards and the WPO being dubbed “strength entertainment” as opposed to Powerlifting.
Truth be told, I am coming from the other side of the conversation anyway as I have attended but never lifted in an APF event.

Oh God. Please tell me you’ve been reading Outlaws the past week or so?
My productivity has gone to complete shit now thanks to Hoff and Outlaws.

Try to avoid it tbh. Been following it on PLwatch.
Hoff’s back in anyway. Looks like Louie got his way. Completely destroys any remaining credibility that the SPF has imo.

Not surprising in the least. This is Louie’s what…4th fed? Louie gets what Louie wants or Louie takes the Pro/Am and his money elsewhere.

It will make me rethink signing future checks to Rodgers and in the end, thatâ??s the only statement that really matters.
