Sharp Burning Sensation in Inner Elbow

Hi,

I’m a relatively new lifter. I started lifting in 2006 but only consistently since July 2011.

I do Standing Overhead Presses and recently it’s been giving me pain in my elbow.

In particular, at the lowest position when the bar is close to my clavicles. I was holding the bar slightly wider than shoulder width at the time.

It felt like my shortened biceps were pinching something, so I tried squeezing my pecs to bring my elbows in more, making the upper-arms parallel to one another. It relieved the pain for a bit.

On my next session it happened again. This time I tried widening my grip and pulling my elbows out. It stopped the burning for the first 2 sets, then on my 3rd it was there again.

It’s a sudden, shooting kind of pain, like somebody just poked my inner elbow with a hot needle. Only happens in the lowest position, and (i think) when my arms are internally rotated.

What’s wrong with me?

sounds like golfer’s elbow to me.
