Shane’s Journal

Wow, that is a lot of prednisone. Haha. Yep, the energy was great the first couple day. :joy:

I actually am reconsidering the just pick 3000 Cala and doing something more like what you do by finding my cals burned and adjusting on the fly.

Like today, my activity was low. I am right at 3000 cals burned. On days like today if I want to keep my deficit I would adjust dinner back some.

That makes a lot more sense and should push me to try to be more active. Yesterday I was over 4000 cals burned so 3000 would have been good. Today I will dial it back. For days where I am way over and if hungry, eat a little more. Trying to not so rigid so it’s not such a slog.

You’re more ripped than me. I am definitely rocking the dad bod over here.

Absolutely. If you are getting pretty accurate readings for how much you burn you can definitely adjust every day. (Assuming you have decent control over your diet of course) I’m still rocking the $20 Casio watch and have been off the grid for a month on burned calories. I just shoot for 2,800-3,000 cals per day now just to play it safe. On a typical day, that is about how much I burn. The weight has not changed so I guess it’s working.

Maybe we should market it as “The Audible Diet.” Copyright 2022 :sunglasses: :joy:

I don’t know how accurate the burn is but it is a starting point to adjust to. BTW, by the time I hit the bed yesterday around 9:00, my calorie burn had jumped up to over 3600 cals. I had a pretty big drop on the scale today, which I needed, but it was interesting to see me burn that many additional cals just walking around the house for 3 and half hours. I think I will top out at 3K cals and adjust down where needed and if I doing something really big for the day maybe eat a little more.

That’s it. My gym is putting in all new Matrix equipment. I am not a fan. I might go to my alternate LA fitness and see what they have over there.

Great work today Shane. Massive leg day, that’s for sure. Sorry to hear about the equipment change. Not familiar with Matrix so I can’t really comment on that. Glad you have an alternate though.

I always thought the Apple watch was weird with that too. Or it just gave me 200 calories for sleeping I think? I never wore my watch to bed but pretty sure it would give me some more cals overnight. I guess, overall it was pretty accurate as I stayed right around the same weight for the last year or two which was the goal. I am down a couple of pounds in the last month or so. I think it has more to do with actually getting 8 hours of sleep per night and, ironically, dialing back the training a bit. I think I was overtraining (and not resting enough) for a long time and I wasn’t losing weight, if that makes any sense. Dialing back the beers a little has helped too. :joy:

Thank you Trent. My legs are letting me know about yesterday’s leg day.

The Matrix stuff makes you feel like whoever bought it, never actually went and used the equipment. Not all of it, but there are a lot of pieces that are honestly useless. The new ab crunch machines I will never be able to use as the range of motion is not made for anyone much taller than 6 foot tall.

The adjustable benches, while nice with wide benches, only have 4 holes for adjustment. flat, slight incline, high incline and straight up. My adjustable at the house has 12 I think.

The hip thrust machine they bought is about the worse hip thrust machine I have ever used. It is beyond odd, has really weird lock in mechanism, that will break mind you, and is really uncomfortable.

The leg press machines have no safety stops, and to set the height for shorter people, requires you pull the levers all the way into the chair, as the short stop is a nub that is on actual rotating safety bar. It is all just shitty made equipment.

Even the new cages have lifting platforms that are two parts and to each other, as in a seam, right where you unrack the bar. Who the fuck that thought that would be a good idea? I wish they would have gone with newer models of the hammer strength stuff they had in there. Oh well, nuff bitching. LoL.

Not sure on the apple watch how it does it. I hear on sleep and less beers. That seems to work wonders. No idea why? :joy:

Absolutely love that post. If I could like it 10 times I would. :joy: It amazes me how many companies, regardless of the industry, get away with selling shit products nowadays. You would think that in a gym it would really matter as those products are nothing but functional.

Yes, more sleep and less beers is probably recommended by 100% of doctors for losing weight. Who woulda thought that could work??? :man_shrugging: :joy:

Agreed man. I am sure there are a lot of people that like their stuff. In their defense not all of the stuff is garbage, just the stuff my gym decided to buy this go around. :joy:

Checked out my old LA Fitness. It’s hasn’t changed at all, probably been at least 3.5 years since I walked through those doors. Ran into an old gym buddy and shot the shit for 10 minutes catching up or this would have been done in under an hour. Going to spend more time over here again, especially if my current gym keeps putting in dumb equipment.

Heading out to the UGA vs Auburn game tomorrow. We better play better than we did last week.

You win! :joy:

Solid session man. Glad you got to catch up with your old gym buddy. Good luck at the game tomorrow! Safe to say you guys are dominating right now.

Decent weekend. UGA was a good game. We started off slow but ended up winning big. The Falcons game I don’t want to even get started on that sack against Brady. We stopped them twice that drive, both of which times we were gave penalties to extend their drive.

That one just kept going and going and going… Nice job Shane. Solid work on those bench sets. Looks like the Mexican and beers paid off! :joy: I misread your pull-ups and thought they were weighted pull-ups. That would have been amazing! :exploding_head:  Glad the Dawgs won for you.

Just saw that the Panthers fired Rhule and will enter the next rebuilding era. I think they’ve been in a rebuilding ear since they came into the league…

Thank you Trent. Yep, the mexican and beers were good.

No way would I ever be doing added weight on pull ups! :joy:

I just saw that as well. I noted it in your journal. Not sure he deserved it but they must have something better in mind. I think he should have stayed for at least another 20 years or so.

It has been hard to watch. There is plenty of talent on that team. They just look completely unprepared and uncoached. He had the last two years and start of this season. They made some deals and brought in some talent, and did nothing with it. The just looked stupid every Sunday. I really think that a good coaching staff could go a long way with that team. When, if or how that actually happens is anyone’s guess. It’s funny because their most recent success was under Rivera, and I don’t think he coached much at all. He just stood there on the sideline like a statue, never speaking into his head set. I was like, “man, he must have hired some good assistant coaches so he can just chill and watch the game.” I guess it worked, at least for one season. :joy:

I can understand that. I think the Falcons actually found a good coach. Now we just need everything else. LoL.

Solid work on that bike ride Shane. You’re starting to sink down to my level at 16 miles in an hour. What’s going on? :man_shrugging: :joy: Nah, seriously, that was a good workout. At first when I saw the highlighted person in your screenshot I thought it was a body assessment. My gym keeps trying to give me a free one and I keep telling them I don’t want it. I’m not blind. I’m a skinny white guy with a beer gut who is in decent shape. No need to get scientific. :joy:

Thank you Trent. LoL. Yep. The first 12 minutes was a warm up though. :joy:

This was a different type of ride. Zone ride that had big rest periods in it. My 60 minute output PR is 590 and this session was about 160 off that pace. Honestly idk if I will ever catch that PR again.

My gym try’s to do the same. Like you said, I know I’m fat, I don’t need a scan to tell me that. :joy:
