Well, the goal at the beginning of the year was 405x1, but had a couple set backs, so I’ll take 365x1 and try to get to 405 ASAP. Don’t know why I failed the first attempt, but I suspect I didn’t control the bar down to my chest well enough and flared my elbows to quickly.
The next 3 attempts, I conciously kept as tight as possible, ‘rowed’ the bar down (thx MMeat) very slowly, touched and pressed. Bringning the bar down slow seems to mitigate fighting momentum on the way up (at least I think).
It felt good and my spotter said I didn’t even fight at my normal sticky point so I might have had a few more pounds in me. Test again maybe in 4-6 weeks. Sub-max for now.
Time to eat steak and watch the Eagles game!
Hell of a way to end the new years benching with taht PR, sorry about the Eagles though.
OH, shit. Last night was laying on the couch watching “Return of the Jedi” and suddenly it felt like someone stabbed me in the left ear with a rusty spatula. Hurt like Hell!
Didn’t sleep at all even with heating pad, Ibuprofren, aspirin, and NyQuil.
Went to docs today and I have a wicked ear infection! I haven’t had an ear infection that made me go to the doctor since I was about 8.
I feel like a big wussy. Gimme my amoxicillin. Patiently awaiting a week of diahhreah… Glad I already did my end-of-year max lifting…
EDIT: I wonder if that pain in my head I was feeling with shrugs was because of ear infxn and pressure in my ear canal…

sorry about the wussy ear infection and I think there’s no doubt about the pain in your head during your shrugs being casused by the infection.
been doing much flying lately? becasue that can be a big cause of ear infections with the pressure changes.

Absolutely. I have to admit it made me really nervous when I read that you had head pain when doing the shrugs. So I’m glad it’s just a flash-in-the-pain problem like an ear infection.
3 days in bed, ear infection that feels like someone was stabbing me in the head with a rusty ice-pick every heartbeat, heating pad on head, antibiotics (blech!), way too little food (of course upset stomach because of antibiotics…).
Feeling a little better now although I can’t hear a damn thing because my ear passages are all blocked up. Going around saying “whaaaaat??!?” everytime someone talks to me.
I think I was yelling into the phone on a conference call today. “HEY! HOW’S EVERYBODY DOOO-EEENG?? WHAAAAT?” – lol

Wanted to video tonight because I’ve been psyched all day to attempt 405 F.Squat. I can only point you to my spotter’s Facebook page for personal verification Will attempt again in 2 weeks.
Felt like I had more left but, again, it’s the bar on my freakin’ trachea that’s the thing to overcome. Racking the bar wasn’t pretty, either (on side a rung higher). Still, got deep, felt good.
Legs fried from the LP and the lunges, while not max effort, just about killed me.

Great work, it doesn’t seem so long ago you were getting your mind right for four plates on the back squat. Really inspiring stuff.
I said the same thing to someone tonight. I said something similar when I got that 365 bench-- “I remember when I couldn’t squat this!”…
It’s especially sweet given that 3 years ago or so I had that nasty back blow out and couldn’t hardly stand/walk for weeks and lift heavy for months. That happened with 225 on my back!
I’ve been very conservative with my squats and deadlifts and hopefully the exchange of bigger numbers quicker for longevity will pay off.
