Severe Sprained Ankle. Any Ideas While Recovering?

So, long story short, sprained my ankle last Sunday during basketball. Pretty bad, haven’t been able to walk or put any pressure on it in over a week.

Until then, I was doing Krypteria (and loving it). However, the doctor’s have told me that it will probably be a few weeks before I can feel comfortable putting pressure on the foot (i.e. walking around with dumbbells, holding a barbell, etc.)

In the meantime, I’d like to not become a lazy fat ass. Is there any way possible I could do some type of 5/3/1 - or, any type of “workout” that will help me transition back into Krypteria easier once I can get back to full strength? Would just like to keep fitness levels up as much as I can, and retain muscle.

Edit: I should mention that I’ve been using crutches to get around.

Well if your on crutches then what do you think??
if your hell bent on it you can do single leg leg press or hack squat machine. Seated upper body movements should be ok just dont go crazy. Do pump stuff. Get better first.
Edit dont even do anything while you still need crutches, wtf your gonna go up to the hack squat station and fall and hurt yourself.

I had hip surgery on December and barely missed a week of training. Machines are your friends. Do single leg work on the good leg and do what you can with the bad leg.

You can do extensions, leg curls, hip extension (cable or machine if you have one). There’s no reason to shut it down. I ran CT’s Best Damn program for most things, but I did a little 5/3/1 with rest/pause training on the few things that I could.

Check out my training log from January to March if you want to see the details.

There’s no reason for your three good limbs to fall apart. There’s also a tiny carry over effect from the good leg to the bad leg.

You are me and I am you. This exact thing happened to me about 7 or 8 months ago. Was doing Kyrpteia, and sprained my ankle very badly. I posted about it, and get some advice.

I did what I could. Kept up the BP work, did assistance work like pull ups, dips, DB presses right off the bat even though I couldn’t walk. Slowly I started doing light trap bar deads. Then half squats. Then lightweight, full squats. Then jumps on a short box. Then jumps on a big box. Then started slow sprints. Then sprints. Then I could do everything again. That said, I still feel some stiffness even now, and wear a brace when I play sports.

Ice it, elevate it, and do mobility work on it, too. Push your workouts to your capability, but be smart about it.

Do some Phys Therapy for the ankle once the pain is gone. Rotate in both directions and flex and extend. Do the heat and ice thing too. I had bad sprain 20 years back and it’s never been the same. I wear a compression boot thing, NeoG, at the gym and it works well. And definitely do some kind of seated machine workout while your laid up.
