Hey guys hows it going, first off i want to thank you guys for that kick in my ass, for not sticking to anything the training i have been doing for the past 2 months has been really basic and simple, just some pull-ups, chin-ups, bench, pushpresses, and squats.
Lately ive had no choice but to not lift lowerbody. Im getting ready for the season with our practices and my lowerbody is fucked up, im playing so much better, that strength has made my game make a full turnaround. I gainded probably 6-7 of muscle and dropped like 2% bodyfat, now at 10%, my bench is at 190lbs for 5 reps not to bad i guess since im 6’7" tall and 16 years old.
Lately ive had an issue especially with my vertical leap i just cant jump high at all, i cant even dunk with 2 hands anymore, i feel sluggish off my liftoff on my jump, everything else is good i mean im tons quicker and get off the floor quicker. Could it be fatigue cause i have been going hard the past week, also i have been taking accutane for about 3 months and after the accutane i noticed that i have had trouble with my vert. But 2 weeks ago(before the preseason training which started this monday) i was dunking with 2 hands easy and cant do it no more. What do you guys think it is?
Thanks again for the advice im looking foward to a great season im hopping to dropping 20ppg and 15boards not to mention that were division 1 in high school.
you might be overtraining by being on your feet for so long considering you are a basketball player. are you eating enough calories and drinking your surge while you workout. nutrition is very important. take advantage of whatever supplements you can afford like creatine, protein, vitamins, minerals, the biotest lineup is great. Look you know you can jump it’s just that at 79 inches, you should always dunk. you have to train yourself for it to be always there, or atleast you can turn on the juice when ever you need it. train hard to get where you need to go. laters pk
I came across this problem back when I played. When was the last time you yook a break from training? Overtraining the legs in basketball while lifting weights will kill your vert. But I know how coaches are, and chances are you will not get the break you need. So make sure and rest every chance you get. Cut out the weights for about a week and see how you feel.
Another problem is that since you are only 16 and are 6’7 your nervous system and your muscular system are working hard just to keep up with your rapid growth.
ONE VERY IMPORTANT POINT. Do not force yourself to train endlessly when your workouts start to become fruitless. When your work outs start to be counter productive, your body is telling you to cut it out and rest.
I learned this the hard way.
I went to Italy for a J.R. Olympic tournament and twisted both ankles without getting a chance to play. This only happened because I was stupidly doing plyo work everyday to jump higher. If you have any questions, PM me, I’d be more than happy to help.
