Schwab Bench Press

did anyone else here about brian schwab benching 600 lbs at the 160 weight class?
that is just dominant

What org did this take place in(not that it matters just would like to know). That is a monstrous lift.

BEAST.

Btw I think I’m going to start training for powerlifting now… This stuff looks damn fun…

so, it took another guy to pull his shirt down to make it tighter… And… where was the pause?

On top of that he probably doesn’t donate enough money to charity. That lift sucked.

/wrists

There wasn’t much of a pause there, but then again, everybody gets a gift every now and then. Sometimes you get screwed on calls too, it all evens out.

There is no pause rule in the APF. The rule states that the lifter will receive a PRESS command when the bar becomes motionless on the chest. It stopped moving and he got his press command.

regardless a 165 lbs man lowering 600 lbs that slow is amazing then getting it back up

It is very common for a shirt to ride up while a lifter is setting up on the bench. It is very difficult to reset your shirt yourself while wearing a singlet and impossible to do it lying down.

As for the lift, it looks to be a legit lift- taken at arms length, touched, got the “press” when the bar was motionless, pushed it to a solid and even lockout. I can’t tell for certain from this angle, but his ass was plausibly in contact with the bench. I’m not sure what you guys are calling bullshit on, but frankly, this lift was about as good as any you’ll see. If he touched two inches higher, kept his feet flat, and wore a single poly, it would have passed muster according to IPF rules.

Ya, we know it’s not as cool as your 100lb snatch, but not much is…

Monopoly

Son, you just got put on BLAST!!!

There should be a strength requirement to make comments on other people’s lifts… such as being within 50lbs of a lift to be able to say anything. I think that would weed out most of the haters.

Great lift for a mulit-ply fed, smooth with a good lockout.

It would not have passed in an IPF meet (bar not motionless and on toes), but he’s not lifting IPF so what does he care.

How long does the IPF require a bar to be motionless anyway? I could have sworn I had seen the same motionless, but non-paused, presses in a number of IPF and USAPL lifts.

In fact, I watched Siders hit a very similar hi-700s bench (771, I think) a couple years ago that looked pretty similar. (Of course, Siders was flat-footed, not arched as much, hit his belly higher, and was using a heavily-modified single Rage vs. Schwab’s scooped double-denim.) Maybe they tossed big Brian a bone. Who knows? I question whether the stick-figures that were spotting him could grabbed the weight had things gone south. FWIW, a lot of similar-looking 300-500 lb benches did get turned down that day for touchin’ n’ goin’- including one of mine!

What can he bench press raw? Just curious. I hate the way on the way down it goes so slow simply because of the shirt. That sucks.

No, that’s powerlifitng.

I’m sure he presses less raw.

In many of his ME bench sessions, he works up to 315 raw (essentially double BW) before he switches to his shirt. And I’m sure he’s not hitting a max either.

So we know he can bench press 315 raw. Anyone know if he can bench any higher?

I think 315’s his limit. He may or may not have missed 316. If you REALLY want to know, you sohuld probably ask him on the EliteFTS Q&A

It’s really simple… fill in the boxes here http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/default.asp?a=ask
