Scar Tissue in Quads

I focused on powerlifting for the last couple years and got tired of looking and feeling like a turd. I was a football player in college (D-Line) and took a lot of shots to the quad, then did a couple cycles 10 years ago where I shot in the quads, and now at 33, the last couple years I seem to have developed some really nasty scar tissue that is pretty visible (Kinda in-between the rectus femoris and the vastus lateralis at the lower 1/3 of the muscle, closer to the bottom attachment). It seems hard as a rock.

It feels like a high tension wire under my quad. What would be the best ways to try to break it up? Seems like it’s almost 1/2 inch by 3 inch all the way into the tendon. I’m open for any ideas. I’ve dropped about 30 lbs and it is seemingly more visible the leaner I get. I intend to drop another 20 lbs, and I don’t wanna look worse when I do.

I also have the same issue, but smaller on the vastus, but up higher on the other leg. Any help is more than appreciated.

Damn, were you pinning your quads like 10x a day for 5 years with a 18g needle? That’s really strange that you would develop scar tissue like that just from a couple cycles 10 years ago.

Anyways, some guys have mentioned that aggressively foam rolling the area has helped break it up, you might want to give that a try.

You should get yourself an A.R.T. (active release therapy) session from a sports chiropractor. I found one a few months ago because I had the same problem with my quads. Mine were not as bad as yours but I did get rid of the scar tissue and accompanying pain after a few sessions. And I second the foam rolling that helps tremendously!

Yeah start foam rolling for like 5 minutes on each quad, don’t just go through the motions either really focus on getting to the tender parts. And then see if you need Graston technique/ART done.

Great. Will do. Yeah, it makes no sense how crazy the scar tissue is. all I know is I wanna get rid of it.

Look into the graston technique, it helps with scar tissue/muscle trama. I’d definitely ask a chiropracter for info on it if the foam rolling doesn’t cut it.
