Scales

What is the best way test body fat? Besides jumping into a big tub of water or being involved in a autopsy…
Also something that wont be a big pain in the azz to do offen.

Thanks

Do a search for Jason Norcross’ “Body Composition for Beginners” (Parts 1 and 2).

Are those infrared deals worth a shit? I don’t remember seeing anything about them in Jason Norcross’ articles…

it really doesn’t matter. none of them (except maybe the autopsy?) are dead on right. also it depends on why you want to know. if your just tracking for yourself, then use calipers as they are the most accurate of the easy methods. just be sure the same person, or yourself, does it every time. as long as the number goes down, or up?, then it doesn’t really matter what the number is. if you want to know so you can impress somebody by saying your 5%, then ask yourself why your training in the first place and if you really care what they think.

Ed - I picked up a pair a few weeks ago at :

I gave in and bought the digital version of their calipers. Between that and a taylor’s tape measure, you’re set. The scale will lie - due to lean mass gain or loss - but the calipers and tape won’t. Just follow Jason’s article and you’re good to go.
