How to Test Body Fat

I want to figure out my body fat, what is the recommended way? I am doubtful that the body fat scales are accurate; however I do not know the procedure for body calipers. Perhaps there is a previous post or article I could be directed to.

/bump

i’d also like to know how to do it

Here you go guys.

This is the link to “Body Composition for Beginners Part 2” it goes over skin fold measuring. It has the hyperlink to part 1 of the series that covers different types of testing and their accuracy and such.

Hope That Helps,

Phill, thanks for the hook up.

If you go the caliper route, it is better to have someone do it who knows how to do it and has done it thousands of times. It is not recommended to do it yourself.

Bioelectrical Impedence is actually fairly accurate, especially when compared to calipers. Just make sure that you are hydrated and have stayed away from sodium in the past 24 hours It may be better to invest in a hand-held one, rather than a scale.

If you can, try to find a college/university near who does the bod-pod or hydrostatic weighing. It will cost you nothing and is the most accurate, while you are alive.

I agree with Nikki. I bought some calipers a while back and really struggle to get consistant measurements. It could just be the product, I guess I will see when the T-Jack reviews come in.

No problem,

Anytime, hope it helped.
