SBWC Fall Classic Training Log

Did about 7 singles with sumo mostly in the 75-85% range. Here is my last single of 365:

My back is pretty upright in this and my toes are pointed slightly further out. I’ve also slightly increased the width of my stance, and right now my toes are about 2-3 inches from the plates. I also made sure to rotate my elbows and pull the slack out of the bar. I have to say that while this deadlift certainly looks better in terms of my back position, I feel so much weaker and less explosive. I felt like before I was using more back to pull the weight but I feel that this position right here takes that extra help right out of the equation.

We are pretty similar deadlift wise I think (except I’m sexier). I’d race you to 500 but I don’t plan on maxing out for a while.

Like here’s about the same weight @ 170kg from my deload week.

I reckon tweak your starting hip position a bit. When ur butt drops to start the lift I think it drops too far and you lose that perfect point with max tension and then your hips have to come back up a bit to find it again before the bar can start to leave the ground which makes the start which already feels weak cos sumo even worse

I think you’re absolutely right about the hip position. I start a bit higher next workout and see how that feels. It couldn’t possibly be less explosive than what I did last session haha.

If you change your mind about the race let me know. I’m still about 20 pounds off, my last pr was at 480. That being said maxing out is having diminishing returns at this point and like you I probably won’t be maxing out for at least another few weeks (if I can contain myself)

Hips felt pretty beat up today so I decided to pull conventional.

Conventional:
5x135
5x225
3x275
3x315
1x335
1x365
1x365
1x365
1x365
1x405

Bench
5x95
5x125
5x165
5x195
3x230

Pullups 2,4,6,10,6,4,2

Plank 2x1minute (really weak at these)

Haven’t pulled sumo lately, I find that trying to open up my hips too much really beats them up. I’ve switched back to conventional for the time being. Going forward I will be doing a cycle of the Coan/Philipi program along with a squat day and a day to specifically hammer the core and hamstrings.

Today’s workout:

Conventional deadlift
5x135
5x225
3x275
3x315
1x365
1x405
1x425 (mixed grip)
5x365 (straps)

RDL 4x5x225
Chinups 2,4,6,8,6,4,2
GHR with 60lb kettlebell 3x6

So close though…but if you do some conventional and build that it’ll really show in your sumo IMO. Before I started Powerlifting it was all conventional DL for bodybuilding purposes and I think that built up a good base before I began sumo.

I reckon keep some sumo in doesn’t have to be anything heavy maybe a couple of reps as you are gradually throwing on plates to warm up. Will keep your hips mobile and openy and shit

I think I’m lucky that sumo doesn’t beat up my hips or knees at all apparently. I’ve been doing it twice a week for a few months now upping weight or reps so far so good.

It’s definitely an option, I wouldn’t mind getting in some light work with sumo just to maintain technique. I might actually throw in 4th day for exactly that. I’ve been really lazy about bringing my hammies and core up to par so this cycle is also to address that.

Squat
5x135
5x185
5x215
5x255
5x300
5x225

Good mornings

Light session today before I begin my coan/Philipi cycle on Friday.

3x1 minute planks

Hamstrings are still sore from Monday so no ghrs today.

Coan/Philipi - working set: 2x355

Played a pretty fast-paced indoor soccer game today. A little beat up from yesterdays session but I figured I might as well deadlift while I’m at the gym. Nothing too crazy today. Spontaneous decision at the end of the workout to go AMRAP with 315lbs. Vid below.

Conventional Deadlift
5x135
5x135
5x225
3x275
5x315
5x315
5x315
11x315

Nice. Last rep looked easy like you could’ve done a lot more. NotTruAmrap

Also you have a big head… or your head out angles your body or something lol. What is ur height/weight cos I can never tell from vids because there’s nothing to compare with

Haha thats probably a combination of the angle and me just having a huge head :stuck_out_tongue:

Yea I was thinking about trying for 15 but from what I can see the coan/philipi program picks up very quickly. Better to leave a few reps in the tank this time. Also at this point I was just dying to go home and eat something.

I’m 5’10" and about 200lbs atm. Definitely a decent amount of fat to shed but I’ve definitely look a lot stronger than I did 8 months ago.

Bigger than you look… don’t know if that’s a good thing or nah lol

Yea I’ve definitely been told that before. But on the other hand I’ve also been told I look big in person. Not sure if thats a good thing or not, but I’d like to gain more mass eventually regardless. I was actually gonna ask you the same thing on your thread earlier, whats you height and weight?

Insert overused I am literally guinea pig response

Srs though am 5’7/manlet and a few 0.1s over 180lbs
