it should be more, i know ksu football team use the safety bar and have many players who safety squat 900-1000lbs, aka darren sproles.
Yes, this is normal because a properly built SSB will move the center of gravity forward, making it harder on you. The weights are higher up and forward when compared to a straight bar.

I beg your pardon? 900-1,000lbs? Many players?
What kind of depth are we talking here?
I’m under the belief that SSB squats are almost always less than regular squatting numbers. And I’m pretty sure that there arent any KSU football players squatting 900lbs in a parallel back squat.
To the OP, I don’t think that’s a huge discrepancy. Once you get accustomed to the new bar, the numbers will probably go up as well.

i do feel like the bar is pushing me forward, they are a lot harder
sorry i think 900lb to 1000lbs would be half squats not parallel squats. Also your not actually telling me what their normal bar squats are. Pretty pointless post

Never believe football lifting numbers. Most are inflated. Also, the ssb has some self spotting handles where guys pull with their arms to assist theirselves.
Every powerlifter I know has lifted less with the ssb than a straight bar due to the higher center of gravity.

Bullshit.
The only way a SSB squat would be higher than a regular squat is if the person is holding onto the rack or some handles and not onto the bar itself, thereby using their arms to help pull themselves back up.
