Rymon Log of Lifting

I am telling you there is no such thing as “upper lats”. That is the teres major. Just because some clown makes a youtube video doesn’t make it true.

Yes if you want to target the muscles above the lats.

Don’t just listen to me. Look at the anatomy chart.

BULLSHIT.

Your body is not in a static. It is in a constant state of adaptation. For some, making a drastic change in bodycomp will be harder in some areas than others but it is possible as long as you are willing to put in the effort. This shit takes years. Having these thoughts now will only hold you back.

People, even older doctors in the 90s, used to call me the equivalent of an ectomorph before I gained 100lbs. Then new people I met thought I was born naturally big. They did not see how I had to force feed myself for years until I fucking hated eating and dreaded my next meal all the time. Slowly it became easier and I did not have to eat so much to maintain my bodyweight because my body adapted and had a new set point. It accepted the new weight as normal.

Metabolic damage is broscience. Metabolic slowdown, however, is very real. If you continue to eat in a caloric deficit, this is what you will be experiencing.

@rymon511 couple of things:

  1. Listen to dt79. He knows what he’s talking about to a seriously impressively degree, especially in respect of the kind of training you’re doing.

  2. Stoppani having a supplement company and being famous is no guarantee he knows what the hell he’s talking about.

  3. I’m going to echo dt79 on the whole body type issue. Just because you were fat for a while doesn’t mean you always will be. I’m 31. For about three quarters of my life I’ve been anywhere between fat and chubby. Even now I’m fluffy around the middle and I’m in the best physical condition I ever have. The difference between now and eight years ago when I started to lose most of my weight is that my body has adapted to being less fat. That means it functions differently, and that’s exactly what will happen to you but it takes time. I remember when I started out, one or two days of less than on target eating set me back a fair bit. Now I have a much, much larger buffer period (maybe two months). If you work on adding muscle consistently and slowly reducing body fat, your body will adjust to that. Just be patient.

ok here something is killing me … last night i was dam hungry… i ate popcorn and some coshry… its egy food… made of rice pasta and tomato souase and homoos… and lantis…
i swear i ate littile amount and today BOM 4 lbs up scale… im ofailly 190… i was told this by my wife… what is that cant u enjoy food like us? 1 meal and 4 lbs up ? from 184 to 1`90 ? hell its even 6 lbs…now tell me about not being endprmgh

Thanks. The feeling’s mutual.

@rymon511 This is what any accomplished lifter who has put in the time and effort to drastically change their physique will say.

It’s probably just bloat.

@rymon511 that’s exactly it. You had a salty, carb heavy meal. Your body stores carbohydrates with water molecules when converting it to glycogen which then sits in your liver and muscles; and salt also causes water retention because it shifts the concentration gradient between your blood and interstitial fluid (I think) making your body retain water to put your blood’s concentration of salt (sodium and chlorine predominantly, which are essential electrolytes) return to its homeostatic levels.

Long story short: eat salty carbs, body holds on to water. Water is heavy. So, scale weight goes up. Nothing to worry about.

i will see…
also do u think deadlift can build muscle? and if yes what muscle?

Really Rymon? Think about it. What do you feel when you deadlift? I know I feel tension pretty much everywhere, and especially down the back side of my body. Now, if you follow that thought through you’ll see that it’s pretty likely DL is a pretty good muscle builder, especially for everything on the rear side of your body.

However, if you had asked whether the DL is a better muscle builder for the posterior chain than anything else, or if it is necessary to DL to build the posterior chain those would have been very good questions indeed. My answer to both is pretty much no: I think you can build a very muscular back side of your body (traps, lats, erectors, teres, glutes, hams) without deadlifting. Deadlifting certainly can help to build a muscular back/rear side, but it isn’t essential.

Now, if you want to be overall strong, and especially of you want a strong rear side of your body it is a different a story and I absolutely think you have to deadlift in some form or another. Look at the three strongest kinds of athlete: weightlifters, powerlifters and strongman competitors. They ALL deadlift in some form, and often do it a lot.

So, if you want a muscular and strong rear side of the body you probably should deadlift. What stance, whether you use blocks, how heavy you go, how much volume etc is up to you and your body. Personally I think if you can, pull conventional and learn that style first. Once your conventional DL is technically decent, you can try sumo and snatch grip and deficit DL and stuff.

look at this… taken today…

@dt79 help!1 from help…this is 30 kilo each side felt kinda heavy
now i felt nothing in hams… or legs… or any where to be honest… i was just mo9ving…
now if u see something wrong tell me how to corrcet it…

That’s pretty much my point: you’re not going to feel any individual muscle when deadlifting unless something bad is happening. What you will usually feel is a heavy load all over.

With your DL, working from feet up, start to finish:

  • try to get the bar sitting over the middle of your foot. Feet should be less than shoulder width apart, with toes and knees pointing slightly outwards;

This is where you take your air, a big breath into your belly and lower back.

  • once your hands are on the bar, pull back so your shins are as vertical as possible (they can be a little forward but as soon as you push off the floor they need to be vertical so you may as well set them up like that);
  • pulling back will make your hips drop a bit. That’s fine, because that will probably mean your lower back is straight (although you have that locked in anyway), but it will also let you get more leg drive off the floor. You’ll know when you’re in the right position when it feels like you’ll fall back a bit if you let go of the bar;
  • try to bend the bar around your shins. This will do two things: engage your lats and get the bar to be right on your shins;

You are now ready to pull.

  • push hard against the ground, don’t think about pulling with your back. Your back angle shouldn’t change much at all from the start until the bar is just below your knees. At the same time, pull the bar into your shins as if you’re trying to take the skin off them. You should be thinking about pushing down with your feet and leaning back, so that the bar moves backwards towards you and up;

  • once you feel the bar pass your knees push your hips hard through the bar by squeezing your glutes (you don’t do this at all in the video, you’re not really locked out). If you start to struggle, twist your feet outwards. This will definitely get your hips through.
