Running to Determine Cardiac Health?

How far should a healthy man be able to run? Generally.

10 min mile

According to the US Military, a 6:00 to 6:30 minute mile for 2 or 3 miles is “tip-top” shape. I’d say if you can bang out a 7 minute mile and not be horribly out of breath then you are in decent shape.

As one metric, you can refence the Cooper Test. The Cooper Test is a 12 minute run for distance. The results can be correlated to VO2 max.

The test puts you in the top tier of CV fitness if you bang out ~1.7 miles in 12 minutes for ages 20-39 (males). At 1.17-1.35 miles in 12 minutes is average depending on your age for males in the 20-39 years bracket. So a rough pace range is ~7 minute/mile(very fit in the 20-29 bracket) to a 10 minute/mile(average fit in the 30-39 bracket).

These are for non-competitive athletes. Many law enforcement and military organizations base some part of their physical assesment on this test.

Thank you, I’ll try that.
