I am a submission wrestler. I am as lean as I get at the top of my weight class, so am very strong there. I have a fear of getting tired to soon into my five minute matches so I never fight as hard as I know I should. I am going to prepare for another event seven weeks away and am thinking of using a interval type of sprinting program to get my system into better condition so that I do not have the fear of tireing. Does any of you have any better suggestions to accomplish this goal?
I say intervals are the way to go. I wrestled and do various martial arts (grappling and striking). When you’re doing that kind of stuff, you are working on anaerobic endurance so it would be a good idea to train in a similar manner. In the NSCA journal in 1999 (I think) they outlined a program that they studied on wrestlers with positive effects. So I think this is something you might wanna look into, as you are in the same boat.
