So I made it! I made my school’s novice rowing team! I am definitely the biggest and strongest guy on the team(5’9’',177,14%BF)but certainly not the best rower! So I am looking to increase my endurance and drop some bodyfat without totally fucking up performance. My plan is to go on a Don’t Diet plan with about 2150 cals per day and follow Meltdown Training but maybe do it 3 times a week instead of four.I will increase carb/fat ratio on days I lift.Going to be using MD6 and T2,maybe even 4AD-EC (depending on budget, though I don’t think I’ll need for at least another 2 weeks)
So, what do you people think? P.S: A big “Thank you” goes out to the two guys who answered my questions about rowing before.
You need to be real careful about dropping calories. You are going to need them when you row. I stay at maintenance level, possibly more. Taking the supplements you mentioned, coupled with the increased activity should do the job all by itself. Dropping calories too low could actually cause you to hold onto the body fat.
Biggest meaning widest? My brother rowed for a while at cornell as a freshman, and at 6’1" and 200some lbs, he was the shortest of the bunch!
anyways… like ko mentioned, I would be REALLY CAREFUL about dropping calories. Rowing is not exactly a sport of low-energy demands. My brother was eating about 4000+ calories a day and still couldn’t hang on to mass of any kind with the set pieces they had to do. Just doing ergometer pieces can get really brutal.
Either way, big time congratulations on making the team, thats a big accomplishment!
You’re going to need a lot more calories than that! Rowing burns about 900-1000 calories in an hour so 2100 or so won’t be enough. Back when Canada was training for the 1956 olympics, the guys were eating 6000 calories a day & still losing weight. I’d say just cut back on the carbs but don’t cut calories too much.
What school are you at?
