Rowing and PL

I was thinking about checking out the rowing club at my college. I haven’t done it before but it seems worth checking out. I was wondering though, would it have a negative impact on my lifting. I’m new to powerlifting, but I like it and I want to get stronger. Could I lift in the morning and row at night, or would that not be enough recovery?

There used to be a poster here, LiquidMercury, that competed at a very high level at both. I don’t think he trained them both simultaneously but used one to strengthen the other. I haven’t seen him post in a long time, my guess is that he got tired of form check threads.

A quick search yielded this:

I rowed at Cal (a very long time ago) and was lifting at the same time. I hadn’t done my first powerlifting meet by then, but I’d always trained for strength. The long pieces on the erg and the on water training made it hard to keep up with my lifting.

They compliment each other well if you know your body and are willing to adapt to the added stress. Some of the fittest and big guys I know row, they have a hard time usually keeping their weight down. Go for it leave no regrets.

It helps also if you have good cardio capabilities already, mostly in a sprint or explosive type movements for time, ie skating sprinting olympic lifts ect.

Do you Bro whats your max leg curl?

Why not do a 2 day split? Like Mon-Thursday

Or workout 2 days a week on days you arent rowing.

Mon Squat-Bench
Thurs-Deadlift -Press

Most colleges don’t have two days you aren’t rowing. Practices are Monday through Friday, with races or another practice on Saturday. Sunday was the only day I ever had off.

Lol just do it all in one day hit the main lifts forget assistance do big but boring for everything!!!

Lol no i dk man

If its a good college program they should include some lifting. I would completely buy into the coaches training for the first 3 months and then evaluate.

If in doubt I would say get on a decent twice a week program and really nail your workout supps and nutrition…
