Routine Advice

Currently I’m doing 5/3/1 and although slow progress is being I feel like I could be more aggressive with the weight progression, I’m especially looking to increase my deadlift. I’ve been looking at the Coan/Phillipi deadlift routine or Madcow but I’m unsure which to go with or wether I should just stick with I’m currently. Has anyone got any advice?

If one month you lift 315x6 and next one you lift 320x8 strenght has increased more than 5 lbs. Just let the progress come and don’t rush it.

I’ve done 5/3/1 in one form or another for 2 or 3 years now. It will get you strong assuming you are doing it right, part of doing it right is having patience. I assume the 1993 is a reference to your birth year? Young and impatient tend to go hand in hand, stop looking at week to week and consider the potential long term gains that can be had with doing 5/3/1.

Yeah It’s my birth year and part of me knows I’m being patient but part of me thinks I can push a little faster if that makes sense.

I think what he’s getting at is that doesn’t make sense. 5/3/1 is a very solid program. Practically everyone who implements it is successful and, with the rep records, your strength gains aren’t limited to the amount of weight that you add to the bar every month. Just take it slow and follow the program to a “T”. If you try to rush things you’ll just plateau faster, there’s a reason that it progresses slowly.

I say go for what you want to do. Enjoy weightlifting. Also if you do not well do on this program its a chance to learn. Either way your going to gain dont worry too much just lift, eat, sleep.
