"Considering 58% of female readers on this site are 35+ years old, the anti-bodybuilding sentiment is completely understandable. I’m quite certain most of you struggle with your Tony Little Gazelle once in a blue moon, desperately trying to shed cellulite and lard off your flabby bodies.
Ronnie Coleman is one of the best in the world. Can YOU claim that with ANY endeavor?"
Apparently telling the truth gets you banned, much like bb.com
The comments are are ignorant as hell on that page but that is besides the point. Personally I don’t have much respect for Ronnie and think he is simply a freak but that doesn’t mean people should be able to trade on his name.
I met Ronnie at the Arnold last year and he was actually nice. I ran into him after he signed autographs. He signed my shit for free and was nothing but polite. I also sat next to Dennis Wolf on a plane from Philly to Frankfurt…wow was that cool. He finally got some English down, and my German was all right. He was a great guy
Its easy to be average and critisize others for actually doing something that requires effort. 90% of the population will always try to bring you back down.
Do all women really think guys go to the gym for the sole purpose of hoping to attract more ladies? Yea I’m sure all the Olympia’s did it for the chicks and not the self satisfaction.
I wonder what these ppl who were bashing Ronnie would say about Frank Zane or Larry Scott? They never even heard of them or prob seen them, so I wonder if they would have the same opinion?

It wouldn’t matter.
There was a photo shoot that Flex Wheeler did a while back where he wore nothing but regular clothes and he was in off season condition. They were done like regular modeling pictures. I knew three different women who couldn’t stop drooling over the pictures but than had this similar rehearsed response when they saw the pics of him in contest condition.

He looked BIGGER in the off season pictures.
Flex, though huge, is not in the ‘man mountain’ mould as someone like Jay would be, but anyway it’s the extreme ‘ripped’ look that shocks, and also the often ‘scary’ paper thin skin facial expressions mid pose put them off some more when they see these pics!
Ironic that so many trainers seem to be chasing down their bf levels prematurely aiming for sub 10% in the hope of obtaining ‘hot abs’ when in many cases the very women they want swooning over them are checking out the normal bf level athletic looking dude.

I am guessing you have no response for this since several people have asked you…but I do find it funny that someone would say something like that. This one of the few bodybuilders who actually worked long hours at a REAL job while also becoming a Mr. Olympia.
There are so few who can claim something like that, that it makes your comment DISrespectful. Unless this man did something to you personally, why a lack of respect?
Simply a freak? The man worked harder than most of the people on this site could even comprehend. With most of the posters here afraid to eat, how many have actually even eaten every 3-4 hours without fail for even the last week?
There are people posting in a bodybuilding forum who have no respect for bodybuilding. Why does this make sense to you?

Mass hysteria. Pavlovian response, driven by the shock that they could even like something that is so against the grain, the standards of their peers. Couple that with jealousy over the work ethic and awesome physique obtained by the long hours they themselves aren’t willing to put in the gym, and you get that response that you got.
Not to turn this into a gender-specific thread, but in my experience, most women can’t predict what they’ll like despite talking about it 10 times a day. They go by feeling, and nobody can predict how they will feel or react to something.
That’s why I tell guys to stop setting their physique goals based on the presumed female response.
Besides, I love how it is in some twisted way noble to ‘love’ people for ‘who they are’ if they are overweight - showing that you aren’t shallow - but you can’t apply the same mentality to the person whose physique is at the opposite end of the spectrum.
All of a sudden, you can judge aesthetics if they have muscles. But you can’t if it’s all fat!
What I never understand is how can a woman not find a bodybuilder attractive? I mean… instinctually… shouldn’t a woman be more attracted to the dominant/masculine male? A bodybuilder in a sense represents dominance and masculinity… I don’t know. I would just think women WOULD find bodybuilders to be more appealing… that seems rational enough to me! It makes sense to me too.

LOL that quote is fucking awesome.
But back to the topic, why wouldn’t Ronnie sue over it? They shouldn’t be able to make money off of him or because of him without him allowing it, whether free or for pay.
Biologically, women want someone who has good genes. Certain physique characteristics say this
…but this is BS to some degree, because different things are attractive in different cultures. How can the curvy women that was loved in the 1800s with some fat on her now be disgusting for people to want the toned skinny women with huge tits? Or what they find attractive in Japan is different than in Europe?
But overall people have a certain idea know who has quality genes by looking at them. They want to mate with those with quality genes to produce better offspring with better chances of survival
I dont really know my point im trying to make…just throwin around some ideas
I guess women think current bodybuilders (of the 90s, bigger than ever) as bad genetically (even though they have great genetics, just help from outside sources)…i guess thats my take on it

But they often do - when the BBer looks like Clancy Ross, Grimek, Steve Reeves, Frank Zane, Flex Wheeler (in good condition, standing relaxed, giving them a smile, acting natural…)
I think it’s the extreme ‘ripped’ look combined with the aggressive posing (e.g. most muscular) and facial expression that puts them off.
They ‘know’ it isnt natural to look like that (and… it isn’t really! Even the pro BBers with all that dedication and help can only do it for a few weeks max)
Shouldn’t make a big deal out of women being turned off by a pic of a pro BBer at ripped peak condition really.

I think it needs to be pointed out though that they aren’t even responding to the SIZE of the bodybuilder considering some seem to like the look when they are not in contest condition. The same women talking about what they don’t like would be the same ones heading to a male strip club to throw dollars down the pants of some guy damn near as big.
What women say they want doesn’t always line up with what they actually respond to when it is right in front of them.
Guys should be taught this in middle school so they avoid even worrying about it.
After they have succeeded at turning most of the trend followers into little weaklings dressed in girls pants, I am sure they will just begin pumping estrogen into the water supply.

I’m inclined to think they already do. That’s why I only drink distilled water.
