People are just so stupid. I mean overall it is a lack of motivation…it is easier to hate something and give it as an excuse not to do something than to put for the small effort to read a fucking book…then take into account the sheer stupidity when it comes to health matters…if it doesnt appear in Men’s Health or Fitness then it isn’t fact; Kids these days learn how to play kickball in P.E., and we wonder why so many kids are fat. They need to learn proper diet, nutrition, and exercise (but no that would take away too much money, fuck finger painting, teach these kids how to eat right)…finally the extreme bias of the media! All you hear is HGH-this, anabolic steroid that…Christ, they need to read a book instead of jumping on the Hater BandWagon…I mean I’m natural, but I still respect and understand AAS…fuck
sorry for the rant
now onto the money issue:
Contest prizes aren’t that big maybe $10-25k per show. Olympia first place is around $120k , but out of that prize money little is seen (most go to taxes), then on top of that they have to pay rent, gym fees, pay other bills, HUGE grocery bills, plus AAS arent cheap! Most of the money comes from endorsement deals, thats why they are so important. Many guys who arent Jay, Ronnie, or Dex would be living in the streets if it werent for supp companies and endorsement deals.
I mean obviously if you win the Olympia 8 times that almost a clean mill there, but taxes and expenses take it away, endorsement for supps or other products (clothes, Phil Heath has a chicken company sponsor so he gets free chicken) is where the money is at. Even Jay who says he make $250k a year is half what the lowest paid NFL player makes annually, so BB doesn’t pay, endorsement (like with all atheletes, is where the show is)

No disagreement there. The point being made though is that the very top in the sport aren’t exactly starving like some people would have you believe. While 250K sucks for any athlete, I seriously doubt most of the people throwing insults are making even a third of that a year.
Isn’t the average person in America still making less than 50k a year?
Considering the man is doing what he LOVES, there are few negatives…and I am willing to bet that most of the people who even made comments after that ‘article’ are the last on most people’s list of “things they most desire”.
I’m sure Ronnie has money, he is at the pinnacle. Even so, I doubt he is super rich and knows that his earning days are receding. Mainly though, if he didnt agree to the advertising image then he has the right to sue.
It’s the also-ran BBers that lack money, often not working much and spending way more than they should on ‘guru’ advice and, going by Lee Priest interviews, a lot buy way too much aas anyway.
I always had respect for guys who stayed with a day Job, I believe Ronnie was a cop for a time, another i recall was a fireman (cottrell?) and so on.
As for the comments on that site, i’m not that surprised. A ripped BBer is a shock image to the uninitiated and many preconceptions exist. It’s the silliness (can he open a pickle jar… jeez!) and misinformation that irritates.
Yea, day job is good. I read in an interview that many take night school classes so they can get work when they retire at 40 - 45. Other try to start supplement companies. Trying to act rarely works, so many of them try to plan ahead.
But yea, I would rather be making $100k a year doing something I love, then making $50k a year doing something I hate…It common sense.
But it is the same thing with everything that is misunderstood. I mean look at the tattoo industry. In the past people would see tattooed ppl as outlaws, criminals, or satanist. Now that is more understood and mainstream, then it is becoming more acceptable. Try to go to an American highschool or any workplace and try to find at least ONE person without a tattoo. You can’t do it. Same with hip hop music, ppl hated the “thug image” of the 1990s. Sexism is still an issue brought up against the genre, btu now more women are breaking out in hip hop, nobody has anything. Now hip hop is the most commonly played music. Hopefully, with people TRYING (although most failt still) to achieve fitness, BB will become as accepted as it was back in “The Golden Era” per say…
The bottome line ppl hate and fear what is not common and what they dont understand. Easier to hate then to try to accept and appreciate difference
see everyone there is discredidting ronnie and disrecpecting him as a bodybuilder ( based on looks)
however he graduated Cum Laude from GSU and is a N.O Police officer do they say
oh “them college honor grads there horrible look at how dumb he will be in a few years”
or do they say something equally dumb about him based on his service with the police force?
no they only comment on his appearence
well thats how it is. Oh course if you are public figure (In this case I would say bodybuilders due to they have a following) or famous for something like that then you will be judged what you are famous for
if you hold record for biggest tits, even thou you may have graduated havard law, speak 9 languages, help little orphans on weekends, and also help prosecute pedofiles, ppl are still on gonna see the knockers…thats life I’m afraid

I’d rather make $50k a year doing something I love, rather than make 100k a year doing something I hate.

Besides the idiots commenting… Ronnie is absolutely right in bringing a lawsuit against Golds.
Agree.
I’m not sure how much winning the Olympia pays, but Bodybuilding isn’t exactly a high-paying sport.
Not sure if its real but on jay cutlers myspace he lists his income as 250k+ a year, so money is being made apparently.
I believe it. Endorsements and personal appearances add up. It won’t keep rolling in like that for long unless he makes good investments. These guys have to make their money now.

haha. I know that, but I was trying to stress the point of let the men do what they love. Besides enjoying it, they are making a very good living.
Love the JoePa avatar.
He’s just a wannabe.
(Ok, I admit, I like him…but Bobby is still the king…by a few games.)

Look at some more of the comments on the other pages. Like this one:
“Do these muscle bound weirdos actually think this is attractive? You’d think they would have something more constructive to do with their lives. This poster is a good advertisement to stay away from Gold’s Gym. That guy is just nasty and unhealthy looking. I’d take a pot belly any day over that!!! Btw, I’m female.”
Or this:
“Not only do I find his body extremely unatrractive, but you have to wonder about a man who spends so much of his time working out. Is he that obsessed with himself or is he trying to impress others? Give me a tall, thin, thinking man any day. Today would be nice, lol.”
So apparently women today would rather have fat-asses or walking twigs than a bodybuilder.
Then I realized it was fucking TMZ.com, and both of these women were probably 250 lbs housewives, gorging on cookies n’ cream while surfing the celebrity gossip sites with Oprah on in the background.
Then I started to wonder - how did the OP run across this article? Was he surfing TMZ?
because the women saying this are the same ones that are fatasses or 120 lb skinny fat and have trouble lifting 5lb dumbbells
First he deserves compensation. I will all but guarantee he is already a millionaire, several times over. But just because you a rich doesn’t mean people should be able to profit off of your back.
Second deals with intellectual property issues. If he allows people to freely use his image in commercial ventures he will not have control of it in the future and his picture could be plastered elsewhere for endorsements.
The comments are are ignorant as hell on that page but that is besides the point. Personally I don’t have much respect for Ronnie and think he is simply a freak but that doesn’t mean people should be able to trade on his name.
Or the ones like my Mom who think that you have a mental disease if you want to get bigger & stronger. No lies. I had to talk my mom into letting me go to a gym to train. And everyday I STILL hear how I should just be happy with my body and how my dad or grandpa was ‘never like that’.
the posted comments are sad…they sound like a lot of my co-workers, tired after a 9-5 day, home to pop tarts, pizza, and prime time television. Those people are dying and they don’t even realize it. Their body is their vessel and they treat it like shit!!! I don’t fucking get it, wash your car all the time, cut your lawn but let your body waste away into pasty shit; it makes no fucking sense!!!
Granted Ronny is freaky huge but that is his choice, and to the idiots who think that taking steroids gives you these muscles…well never mind AArrggghh!
Yeah there is a line of hugeness somewhere wherein chicks go that is too much, too big, too shredded. Ronnie knows it, everyone knows. Fuck it though, we do it because…we like it.
Goal: get bigger and stronger and look good naked. Once the goal is realized…repeat infinitely.

your grandpa probably didn’t have an 8-10 hour sedentary job either
