Ronda, Rehab to Rockin

I am doing rack pulls instead of deadlift because there is no knee bending, as DL is also the thing that most irritates my knee. I am a little disappointed that I was not able to get more reps and go heavier with rack pulls. It just seems like it should have been easier then DLing…[/quote]

sometimes just depends on where the bar is set to pull from, above the knee should be much easier, mid shin is sometimes harder due to the leverage.

I saw the doc about my knee. I saw the MRI and there is a very clear tear in my tendon and my patella is being pulled to the left but not alot. He said surgery was eventually going to have to happen but only if I was going to modify my activity… meaning no heavy lifting. Something which I am not prepared to do just yet. So instead there are some other options. I have a knee brace to help the patella go back to where it needs to be plus I have leukotape to pull the patella when I am not wearing the brace, like in the gym.
I am also probably going to attempt to go back to traditional DL or perhaps i can make my sumo stance more narrow… I am not sure yet what I need to do.
Plus I may do the Russian Peaking Program with Joe in a few weeks. Why not? my 5,3,1 is shot to hell now and I still have a meet to get ready for

Wow. That’s a lot of news.

The doctor meant no heavy lifting for awhile if you get the surgery, right? Certainly not forever.

You could try modified sumo. I was pulling that way for awhile. Sort of in between conventional and true sumo. I had some success with it.

so, which tendon was the tear in?

The doctor meant no heavy lifting as in no competing if I get surgery. :frowning:

The tear is in my left patella tendon.

Squat 1x10xBW, 1x10x45, 1x8x95, 1x6x115, 1x5x135, 1x5x155, 1x5x185, 1x1x205… my knee hurt

SLDL 1x10x45, 1x10x95, 1x10x115, 1x10x135

then I left because I was exhausted from a week that started with me moving and kept me out of the house till after 7 everynight yawn

I have no idea what I should be doing at the gym anymore. I figured squatting would be ok and I could rack pull util I could DL again. Now my knee hurts from squatting on Friday and I didn’t want to RP to irriate it any more.

So instead…

SLDL 1x10x45, 1x10x95, 1x10x115, 2x8x135, 1x10x95

GM 1x10x45, 1x10x65, 3x8x95

Bench Press 1x10x45, 1x10x65, 1x8x95, 1x3x115, 1x8x135, 1x1x155 (that 8x135 really took it out of me)

Cable Row 3x10x85, 1x10x100

Cable Tricep press down 1x10x35, 1x10x45, 1x10x50

Planck 2x30secs

Bench Press 45lbs with 25lbs dangling on each side 3x5

are you going to see a physical therapist to see what you should/should not be doing while rehabbing the tendon?

how to you get blood flow to that area to speed some healing?

No competing ever again if you opt for surgery? Really?

And I ALWAYS think rack pulls are harder than pulling from the floor. I can’t seem to maintain proper back position while doing them.

And will Dixie really come to Gatlinburg if I do? Really truly?

Physical Therapy was never mentioned as an option.

I am not sure how to get blood flowing to the area. I would imagine heat but everyone keeps saying ice for the inflammation.

The doctor said that if I continued to lift like I am now after surgery this would most likely happen again therefore it would be best if I modify my behavior… that said it’s not like he is going to come to the gym and stop me :stuck_out_tongue:
I am wondering if RPs were so much harder because I have weak back compared to my posterior chain, if that is possible :stuck_out_tongue:
He said he would, this means you have to come *party in Gatlinburg!*yay!

When I tore my shoulder up, I surgeon-shopped. I was very clear that I wanted no part in the surgery deal if I couldn’t bench again in competition. The surgeon who did the work was very supportive of my goal to get back to the platform and followed me for a very long time post-surgery. And I have to admit that I can’t raw bench near the numbers that I used to. But so far so good with the gear.

That being said, I understand the desire to play it safe as well. Tough decision for you, I imagine.

Gatlinburg! Yes, I will look into it. May have to bring my daughter. But she’s darn cute.

I am going to try to get though Nationals before I committ to surgery and if I do committ to surgery I am going to find a more supportive doctor who will be behind my decision to continue competing.
I am seriously thinking about doing Prolothereapy for my knee. I will have to pay for it out of pocket and probably go to Chicago to have it done. But if it helps me I am willing to go for it.

Bring your daughter to Gatlinburg. We will all have fun

Snap, how old is your daughter? I have a 15 y/o and they could hang together…

Ronda, I’ve heard mixed review on prolotherapy, one PL guy did on his elbow tendon and just said now that it’s a year later, he’s finally showing some progress on his bench. He didn’t do the all at once either.

I’m not an expert. I’m not an MD, but I read a fair amount of research articles. I also tend to be skeptical, and I’d be skeptical prolotherapy. I know this review is for back pain, but the punch line is that it was not effective. The reason insurance won’t cover it is because there is a lack of evidence that it is effective.

My daughter is 11. I’d love to see you all lift in between taking her to see schlocky tourist shit. Then again, I could throw in my own singlet.

We are planning on getting there on Thursday and weighing in Friday morning. Then we were going to eat and walk around, unless I have to lift on Friday, we are still not sure about that. On Saturday we know for sure Joe is lifting until about 3 or 4. Then we will look for food and walk around a bit. Plus Breakfast is a must on Sunday

So you have 24-hour weigh-ins? I’ve never experienced that luxury.

WHAT!? This is absurd. Not that I’m biased or anything.
