Rising From the Ashes (CL)

Supposed to be Buff Orrington pullets.

Orpington are nice friendly calm chicken. Even the roos, any way mine, are easy going. And they lay nice eggs but they also then to go broody.

I have 2 that will raise chicks on a regular basis.

That’s what I am hoping for.

They kept trying sell me other breeds but, I held out. I knew what I wanted. Had to wait a few weeks but they finally came in. They had some lavender orppingtons but they sold out quick. If they get more of those I may get 4 more.

Thank guys! @Crippler56 @EmilyQ @QuadQueen

We had a big Easter lunch of ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, biscuits and cherry pie for dessert.

Then later went out, built a fire and made s’mores.

Jed is technically too old for easter eggs but it’s always been his favorite holiday. I am going to wait and hide them during the eclispe on his birthday

Well, that was exciting last evening.

And before everybody thinks I have been just sitting on my ass eating bons-bons. There has been steady state cardio for hours, upper body work (pole saw), sled work (you ever pushed a kawaski mule with a flat tire?) rows (changing said tire) weed eating, pressure washer an whole house, etc…

And of course, the great eclispe.

Definitely sounds like you have stayed busy. Looks like it’s time for a new roof.

It didn’t do it any good… lol
But it got much worse as it went east, so we got lucky!

Wow! So this is why they say to take shelter during a storm! :flushed:

Looks like you’ve been putting in tons of real work lately. No need to hit the gym after that. :sunglasses:

Good news is…
I have squash!!!

Bad news is…
I have never seen soooo many caterpillars! They are eating my veggies. :rage:

Years ago my dad built this hog trap. It has never caught a hog… lol I thought with a little chicken wire, it would be a great starter pen for my chickies. It has been down by the creek for years, therefore is was grown to the ground by various roots. So… there was deadlifting, rows, viking presses to get it about 75- 100 yards up to the house, (uphill both ways… in the humidity )

Now, I need to install the chicken wire.

Ooops! So this happened yesterday. I went to the redneck mall (TSC) for some chicken feed, weedeater string and fertilizer. I left with all the above plus… a couple more water/food dishes and 5 baby ducks and 3 turkeys
Eville lady employee made a point to find me and tell me ALL the babies were on sale for $1 each.

My big guys are enjoying being outside though.

Story time…
The humidity here has been over 90% for days. Friday I was bitching and moaning about it. It’s warm and sticky, beyond muggy at this point, everything is soggy. Life lesson: don’t bitch about the humidity, it may just save your ass.

Friday night mom and I are stting on her porch watching the storm come in. It wasn’t doing much of anything. A little thunder and lightning no big deal. Then… out of nowhere a huge lightning strike hit to the east of us. Close! I went outside to see if I could see anything, nope. All seemed well. 10 minutes later Jed and I walked out the back to head home and HOLY SHIT!!! The neighbors house was a conflagration. Thank God everybody got out safely. 3 VFDs responded and fought it for hours, still had to call them back the next morning because when the wind picked up at sunrise it rekindled and flared back up. Total loss. Burned it to the ground.

We know the guy that lives over there is a “nutjob” but we have always gotten along with his elderly mom ( thank God she made it out) We have heard him target shooting but Damn! Ammo cooked off for over 12 hours straight :cold_sweat: wasn’t sure if it was safe outside or not. Life lesson: if you are going to hoard ammo, dig a hole away from the house in case it gets struck by lightning!

So, we make to bed about 1am and mom calls me at 5am. Her right hand won’t work. Due to her ongoing medical condition we were afraid she may have had a mini stroke. FINALLY talked her into going to the hospital. They did not do a single test other than to have her shrug her shoulders. The doc said he thinks it’s just pinched nerves. Quite honestly I expected them to do more. Ya know… like a CT scan or something. Who am I?
Life lesson: if you can shrug your shoulders save yourself a couple thousand bucks and buy a wrist brace Walmart.

The yesterday I was in town and tried to call home, for 1.5 HOURS and nobody answered. I stopped what I was doing and started to drive home and my son finally calls me back. He was outside and mom had accidentally pressed the do not mode on her phone, ya know because she is using her left hand because the right isn’t working. They know I am high strung and freak out when they don’t answer the phone. At least text me or something to let me know you are okay.
Life lesson: I guess we need a reminder every few months to take your phone with you. It is no longer attached to the wall!
Should I worry when they don’t answer the phone for that long? Would you have started to drive back home? Mom thinks I am worry too much, but things are crazy out there.

Hoping for a calmer day today.
