Choose the one you did not do last time.
I did both last time… sigh…
Sumo !
Hmmmm… my hip is better. ![]()
Then I apologize for having the audacity to give advice to my betters…
sorry didn’t know you were getting over a hip thing…
That’s even funnier than Polar bear’s reply.
Since the upper body is in the shitter, guess…
Mon… squat
Wed… trap bar
Fri or Sat… DL
Same soup, same ole bowl
Sumo was wrecking my hip. I prefer to pull sumo but stopped because those few extra pounds wasn’t worth the pain.
Trap bar
1x5/140
1x3/160
1x1/190
1x1/210
0x1/230 broke off the floor but no go
1x1/220
That’s gonna leave a mark ![]()
I’m considering using the trap bar myself. I don’t have any real reason to expose myself to the higher-risk conventional deadlifts other than the “Well, if I competed again, I’d want to be ready…” rationalization. Not gunna happen.
When I first started this lifting journey I really did want to compete, it wasn’t in the cards. Now, meh… if I do I do, if I don’t I don’t.
As Alan Thrall said, how strong do you have to be to compete? You just have to be able to get the empty bar up. Of course, we’d like for it to be a bit more.
I think I am going to get me one of these.
I need one day to just do stupid stuff and have fun. It’s a 4ft bag 70-100 lbs. If you go out and beat it up, is that cardio?
If nothing else I use it as a sandbag ![]()
I used to own one and used it regularly.
It is indeed cardio.
There is no more effective and/or functional form of cardio.
Definitely get one!
Okay, I ordered it, but if I accidentally get all sexy I don’t want to hear no complaining. ![]()
I have till Monday to figure out what I am going to fill it with. ![]()
Thanks! Weren’t the old ones filled with saw dust?
Saw dust (or sand) alone would probably make it super heavy. Plus, as a newbie, if you hit that w/o padding on your hands or feet, it would really hurt plus you could injure yourself.
I like that the video shows you how to package the sand so that it won’t leak easily, if at all. Also, putting the clothes on the outside makes it more forgiving when you hit it.
Start light, just like with lifting weights.
This video has good tips on how to get cheap clothes/material for filling:
Have you ever worked with a bag before? Depending on what’s inside, like a very thick cardboard tube, they can be extremely hard. Make sure you’ve got some gloves on and even wrist wraps if you’re not use to hitting. Start slow and make sure your wrist are straight when you hit. Careful with the kicks and don’t hit with straight toes. Then tear the hell out of it.
