Rising From the Ashes (CL)

I know, I know. I am going to try my best to see it through.

I honestly think you’ll get to the end, see some decent progress and think “is that all it takes?”

Time will tell. I am going to give it an honest effort. I will have to iron out some details on the assistance though. The way the article reads I am.not sure about it.

@MarkKO wrote a program for @Koestrizer a while back, based off a slightly different progression model, that laid out the basic assistance as:

~2 sets of higher rep supplemental
Lower back work
Upper back work
Core

I’ll try and link the post, but in summary he laid out an entire 16 week cycle with every piece of assistance work varying every week. Plenty of options here.

It’s worth noting, on re-reading that the first 8 weeks double up on lower back and hamstring work rather than heavier supplemental because @Koestrizer was coming back from a back injury.

Thank you!
The program says every 4th week no deads but do stuff like good mornings, reverse hypers, back raises, pull throughs. So I am.just guessing those are the assistance stuff.

Yep. I’ve always assumed some minimal assistance is expected, however it doesn’t say. I’d suggest that if you did the squat and bench and deadlift programs together, plus his suggestions for back work, you’d have a pretty complete program, however I’m not crazy enough to try it (that squat program is not to be messed with).

I have seriously been thinking about the squat program. :joy: I don’t even know what my 1rm for squats would look like nowadays. Hmmm…
I haven’t come close to stalling on my current double progression thang I have going but maybe when I do I will jump on it. I do like the idea of heavy week/ volume week though. Thought about using the idea for the bench though.

I but the bench program is going to be a no. I hit 3x3@ 95% last session. No plans on starting at 60% on that one.

The squat program is the one that scares me. That’s seriously, seriously tough looking. It’s on my bucket list, but no way it’s happening any time soon, mostly due to CoVid and life stresses.

The short rest on the volume sets sounds icky. I don’t have a real leg press so I don’t know how I would get around that.

Barbell in the corner or on a landmine, then attach it to a dipping belt and squat. Pretty good sub.

Ugh! You and your ideas… :joy:
Honestly the the main sets don’t scare me, it’s the assistance work that sounds paralyzing. What is it with him and the hamstrings?

I tried barbell lunges years ago and there is probably a reason we don’t see them in my log. Why can’t we just do BSS?

And this comes back to the age old question… does bigger legs equal a bigger squat?

Damn it! Now, you got me thinking. I mean… are old people even supposed to do this? I
If I die I am blaming you!:rofl::rofl:

For the record, I think that squat program is bordering on suicidal

For me, I fail squats because of my core, not my legs. So big legs are cool (I’m told), but my core isnwhlere the real strength gains will be.

Wu= uh… jumping around like an idiot

Anderson squat
1x5/135
1x5/185
1x3/205
1x2/225 :rage:

Just screwing around
1x1×135
3x1/155 oh so close to depth
1x4/135 because I can’t do maths
4x4/125

Front squat to bench
5x5/95

Belt squat
1x10/50
1x8/75
1x6/100

Screwed around with landmine belt set up… that will need some more thinking.

Landmine squat
3x8/50

Same here. It hurt like a bastard when I first did it because the dip belt kept digging in.

How do you progress these? Have you got a form check video?

The progression comes by doing it for time. And uh… no, no video, the last time anyone saw me dance around they called the EMS because it looked like I was having a seizure.

And sometimes you just get lucky and the universe comes through for ya. I needed some standard 5lb plates… boom! Less than a $1 per lb.

It don’t have to look good to be effective. My Dad started of with coffee cans filled with cement.

That’s it! At least I have progressed from carrying a car battery and 4ft galvanized pipe for bar.
I have some better handles in my toy box. Just needed the small plates. My fixed 20lb DBs aren’t quite heavy enough anymore

Now I swap out the 5s on my T handle for swings and use the 5s on DBs. See… I have been cyphering on this.
