I am sure Charlie Rangel will be in a sensitivity class soon. Oh and he isn’t a football player, he is an elected official. No worry about him losing his job, someone taking out his knee, taking time off for diversity classes. Nope just go about his business and being paid by citizens. But hey, he is a black dude, he can say whatever the fuck he wants.
GAME OVER

black democrats can say whatever they want duh

So any bets on this guy getting stomped by some big bull negro? Going by the name of bigmathafucker.

10 of my future pounds go to this bet my good sirs.

The fact that it is even mentioned. If he were black and used the word, do you think they’d treat it the same way? Or even if he were black and used a white racial slur.

If using The Word is a character flaw, then it’s a character flaw for anyone using it.
You have to know that context means something, right? I think it’s pretty well established in our society that right now, it means something different coming from a white person than a black person. That may not be good for our society, but it’s a current fact. Cooper knows this.
Ah, so it’s okay because society is racist, so just roll with it and call it “context”.

It’s like racism is a newspeak word and it just means whatever we are told it means for the moment with no impact on what it might mean tomorrow.

I think we need a new word either for actual racism or for what the PC crowd now means when they say it.
no. I’m saying that context can determine whether it’s a racist comment or not. The only power words have is the intentions behind them, not the words themselves. My OPINION is that Riley Cooper used this with the all the intentions of a racist. You can’t possibly argue that Cooper used the word in the same way that black people use it with each other, right?

I feel like your argument requires words to have power in and of themselves to be valid. This is something I take issue with.
Wait so you were there, you know the context outside if the tiny clip, and you can read his mind and knew his intentions. Wow
I capitalized the word ‘opinion’ for a reason. you must have missed that. There is more to go off of than the tiny clip, though. In his apology, he said that what he did was repulsive. Beyond that, there is the context that he is white, and he was talking to a black man. Like it or not, this matters.
DoubleDuce wrote:

What a crock of shit.
Oh, you CHRISTIAN you.
“emotional capacity”. You ever been called cracker by a black cop at a car accident where you got hit by someone else in a town that is 70% black and you are the minority?
Uh, is that what happened here?

I believe that poster was pointing out that because of history, one has more significant effect in its use.

I am not sure how you can deny this. Most people on this planet do not use niggER as a sign of friendship. Yes, your scenario described might be negative and racist, but they are not seen the same because of history.
Nor does this address the fact that black can, and some do, use the same racial slurs against blacks with the same hateful racist intent.
Then it means the same if used with racist intent.

The NFL doesn’t care, they have a team called the redskins

They all calm themselves nigga and stuff like that. Why does it matter so much when it’s a white athlete? I know he plays with a lot of african-american players (it’s the NFL lol) but man, to me it is really too much attention for nothing.
They all call themselves nigga and stuff like that?

Wow.

…and “you people” really don’t see the problem with how you think.
The punishment here doesn’t seem to fit the crime. You have guys getting dui’s and killing people in cars through bad decisions, but here yes a inappropriate thing was said. He was drunk, acting dumb, but fuck he didn’t kill anyone or off tons of animals cruelly. I’d fine his ass and make him apologize and be done with it. And let him know it would not be tolerated again.
I wouldn’t…because he is in a position whee his CLEAR BIAS can be used against players without him saying a word.

WHO GIVES A SHIT?

Kid was fucking drunk. Send him to some “sensitivity” classes and be done with it.

That is how I personally would handle something like that in my workplace…however, this is a grand public stage…and the final truth is, the guy in charge being flat out racist does raise some questions.

It is the way the term is used and how it is said.

No one means anything derrogatory from, “That’s my nigga”.

EVERYONE sees something wrong with “I will jump this fence and fight every niggeeeeeeER in here!”

I mean, damn…why the racial slur for everyone present?

Dude was wasted, I think this should be treated in the way I first mentioned because he was wasted. If this is some sober moment and he’s yelling at some black dudes, I could see why it would be a deal (not a big deal, but a deal).

This is just bullshit man, and chances are if he wasn’t playing for a team like the eagles it wouldn’t have been made into such a big deal.

It’s the way he said it. He would have likely gotten a pass if he hadn’t said the word like an old Slave owner.

When was the last time you got drunk and yelled that word?

I don’t always drink, but when I do, I don’t use it as an excuse to say obscene and racist shit.

If you need to insult someone, just call them a peasant.

Heck, you can get banned by the NFL for being white and having racist quotes falsely attributed to you. But pay off your rape victims, cover up murders, torture and kill animals while running an illegal gambling operation, shoot yourself with a gun in a club putting people?s lives at risk, est, and all is forgiven.

We have some messed up priorities in this country.

All is forgiven? Several of those guys went to jail. Who was banned for having a quote falsely attributed to him?

As much as I dislike him, Rush. He was essentially banned from investing in the league because people don’t like his political beliefs. But they officially used quotes (that were proven false) to push him out.

And several didn’t go to jail and didn’t get punished. Guys like Vick also had a long string of incidences that were forgiven off hand before the dog fighting. From flicking off his own fans, to drugs, to giving girls herpes, to steroids, to just plain being lazy. I had been a falcons fan up until they gave Vick that huge contract despite him proving he was a piece of shit. Haven’t watched one of their games since.

It’s like what’s worse, getting drunk at a concert and hurling the worst insult you can think of a a security guard, or giving a woman herpes? seriously. People’s priorities are messed up. You are the lowest form of disrespectful hateful piece of garbage to knowingly give someone herpes. But no one even really made an issue about spreading STDs.

What he said was wrong but I don’t think he should be raked over the coals and lose his entire career over it. I cant be the only one who thinks this right?

I would have thought that the old slave owners, being southern, would have pronounced the word “niggah”.

Malcolm X in his autobiography said he actually found the soft Southern pronunciation “niggah” more offensive than the hard Northern pronunciation (“niggeRRRR”), but he had no problem with the southern white girls who pronounced it with three syllables: “Ah just loooove nee-uh-guhs.”

Jesus Christ, is nobody willing to take the time (5 minutes max) to find out what’s actually happening here? The NFL isn’t giving him a lifetime fucking ban. His team MIGHT release him. And he’ll find another team if the talent is there. The thought that some people have that his career will end because of this is completely nonsensical.

At least learn a little bit about the situation before jumping in with such an absurd thought.

Yeah, might release him and where the Fuck is he suppose to go from there? What team would take him knowing that the media would hound him where ever goes and become a big distraction? Nobody will ever let anybody forget that Riley Cooper said the worst thing imaginable. The possibility is real and its no farfetch from many sport commentary.
