What he said was wrong but I don’t think he should be raked over the coals and lose his entire career over it. I cant be the only one who thinks this right?
Jesus Christ, is nobody willing to take the time (5 minutes max) to find out what’s actually happening here? The NFL isn’t giving him a lifetime fucking ban. His team MIGHT release him. And he’ll find another team if the talent is there. The thought that some people have that his career will end because of this is completely nonsensical.

At least learn a little bit about the situation before jumping in with such an absurd thought.
Yeah, might release him and where the Fuck is he suppose to go from there? What team would take him knowing that the media would hound him where ever goes and become a big distraction? Nobody will ever let anybody forget that Riley Cooper said the worst thing imaginable. The possibility is real and its no farfetch from many sport commentary.
No, he will be forgiven, like every single other athlete that’s ever done anything wrong. If Plaxico, Stallworth, and Vick could find jobs again, and quickly at that, Cooper will find a job. This will blow over within a month or so. I think your perspective on American sports is skewed if you don’t believe the public is extraordinarily forgiving on almost every issue. You apologize profusely, go through counseling, do some community service, and you’re good to go. Within the next few weeks, some other athlete will screw up big (or maybe the A-Rod story will blow up even more), and we’ll forget all about Cooper. The first team to suffer a few WR injuries will probably add him.

Excused from team activities to have counselling, possibly released from team. A LOT of media appearence and public excuses. all that for calling a security guard at a concert a Nigger.

They all calm themselves nigga and stuff like that. Why does it matter so much when it’s a white athlete? I know he plays with a lot of african-american players (it’s the NFL lol) but man, to me it is really too much attention for nothing.
Wow.

…and “you people” really don’t see the problem with how you think.
The punishment here doesn’t seem to fit the crime. You have guys getting dui’s and killing people in cars through bad decisions, but here yes a inappropriate thing was said. He was drunk, acting dumb, but fuck he didn’t kill anyone or off tons of animals cruelly. I’d fine his ass and make him apologize and be done with it. And let him know it would not be tolerated again.
I wouldn’t…because he is in a position whee his CLEAR BIAS can be used against players without him saying a word.
So what? Let the team decide if they want to take those biases or leave it. No need for the NFL to step in. Grown men can play a damn ball game.

You should learn to not only accept that there are double standards, but acknowledge that they are actually OK. Why is it that you feel there is something wrong with double standards anyway?
Because I’m against racism.

I believe in a dream where race isn’t factored in to how someone is punished.
Your dream is not relevant to this situation. He used the word to convey racism, ergo racism is inexorably tied to it.

Because people can pick and choose what situations they want to blow out of proportion
That’s a weird reason to dislike double standards. People will pick and choose what situations they want to blow out of proportion because that’s what people do.

And what you are defining a double standard is an oversimplified, and frankly ignorant, assessment of the situation. If the same number of white people were offended by the word “cracker” as black people who are offended by “nigger,” it would be equally stigmatized. But they aren’t, so it isn’t, meaning the two situations (use of racial slurs by a certain ethnicity, that is) are not remotely the same, hence it isn’t a double standard.

I really just don’t see why white people care so much that black people say “nigga.” Context is everything.

He might get a lot of shit from the League itself.
But I’m sure as hell other players are not making shit out of this incident.

Man, this dude has been playing football literally for 20 years. Don’t you think that if he really was that racist he’d have had some bigger problems by now?

Say whatever you want but racists don’t thrive in team sports, especially in football.
Don’t you think it’s funny that the only guy sharing this perspective in this thread is another non-American? I can GUARANTEE you there are very, very racist players in the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc. You’re 100% naive here.

Side note, how does someone in Brazil not recognize that racism exists in sports? Weird.
Man you should ask a few questions before pointing fingers like this. Yes I’m a non-American but I figured there’s no way you could know I lived all my life in the States and played football there for a reasonable time. Right?

And don’t take this the wrong way man but it’s even sadder that you think racism doesn’t exist here. It’s just because everyone is ‘half-white, half-something else’? Please. It just shows me you have zero idea of what you’re talking about.

You misunderstood my comment about you being from Brazil. I was actually saying that I would be surprised that any Brazilians would not be aware of racism, because there is so much there. Sorry that wasn’t clear, I know i didn’t word it well.
