Riding the Line Between BBing & PLing

so…bodyweight down to 248-250 now. yesterday i hit a big PR on pullups. a few months ago i couldn’t do one BW pullup. i had to use the assisted pullup machine that takes weight off your body. i’ve had a goal of doing pullups with BW plus 100lbs for reps. yesterday i hit BW + 70lbs x 4.

Awesome! so what helped you most from not even being able to do ONE, to doing a FEW with added weight?!

i hadn’t done them in many years. mostly it was just actually doing them again. i’m sure losing the gut has helped too:)

Nice work, man.

Props on the dead stops, too. That’s how real men do them.

bench night…

here are some vids from the highlights. during this cycle i’m going to use reverse grip bench as my full ROM variation.

rack lockouts - 655 x 1 +20lb PR

reverse grip bench press - 405 x 4 -paused. first time doing these with free weights.

Guess who’s work’n out.

Shitty technique on those barbell rows…

Just don’t decapitate yourself

Here’s hoping you’ll get plenty of carryover from those.

yeah… that initial liftoff is a little hairy but once the bar is in place it’s butta. i think after some practice i’ll be good for 500 or so with the reverse grip.

highlight from deadlift night…

elevated sumo deadlift. these are an effing grind. it’s right at my sticking point. this is 675x1. hopefully with my speed off the floor i’m looking at a dead of around 700 right now. bodyweight was 245 this morning.

Impressive lifts. I’m at the same bw and would love to be moving that much weight.

assistance day highlight-

pullups - BW + 90lbs x 3 +20lb PR. this was too big a jump though. i’ll stick with this for a couple weeks to get my reps up to 6, then hopefully hit my goal of BW +100lbs

thank you. the mind is really the only limiting factor.

Highlight from IBN- decided to stick with reverse grip bench press as my ME movement for this cycle. i estimate my max with the reverse grip at 500. tonight i worked up to 85% for 3. felt very manageable. next week it will be 90%. since this is the first time doing reverse grip bench, everything is a PR:)

here’s my 425x3-paused

Good God meat. As impressive as so many of your lifts are, those RGB videos may top the list for me, probably because I can’t fathom 400+ with a reverse grip. This exercise kills my wrists when I go heavy. Do you get any wrist discomfort? I’ve wrapped my wrists, but to no avail. I now only do them in the Smith with a very wide grip to limit the wrist discomfort.

you are pretty much the shit.

Perhaps you’re gripping the bar wrong? I can’t apply that death-grip with all fingers around the bar, my wrists won’t allow it unless I use a close grip…

Then again, I don’t usually do them free-weight either.

i described how i do them in the tricep thread SteelyD started. give it a try… much easier on the wrists.

thanks hoss!!
